Chuck was baptized as an infant on February 12, 1940 and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth at Immanuel Lutheran in Brownton. He received his education in Hutchinson, and was a graduate of the Hutchinson High School Class of 1958, playing football, basketball, and track. Chuck furthered his education at Augustana College where he played football.
On August 12, 1961, Chuck was united in marriage to Barbara Bemo in Alexandria, Minnesota. This marriage was blessed with two sons, David and Mark. Chuck and Barb resided in Hutchinson, and shared 33 years of marriage prior to the passing of Barb on October 29, 1994.
