Shirley Ann DeBlock was born on August 10, 1934, at home on the farm east of Silver Lake, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Vincent “James” and Victoria “Dora” (Smykalski) Kulinski. Shirley was baptized and confirmed at St. Adalbert’s Catholic Church in Silver Lake. She attended a small country school on Highway 7 until her parents moved into Silver Lake, where she finished school in the eighth grade.
Shirley was joined in marriage to Willard Prieve on April 25, 1954. They were married for 17 years and were blessed with two daughters, Norine Kay and Pauline Karen. On June 21, 1974, Shirley was united in marriage to Cornelius “Cliff” DeBlock by Reverend C. DeBlock, father of Cliff, in Montgomery, Alabama. Shirley, Cliff, and the girls made their home on Jefferson Street in Hutchinson in 1974, which also served as their chiropractic office. They shared 42 years of marriage until Cliff passed away on May 24, 2017. Shortly after Cliff’s passing, Shirley moved to Dallas, Texas to be closer to her daughters.
Shirley was employed at 3M from 1952-1954. She returned to 3M in 1970, and worked there until her retirement in 1996. Shirley was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Hutchinson. She was also a member of The Elks Lodge and took great pride in decorating the lodge at Christmas time.
Shirley enjoyed any type of home improvement project and took great pride in her home and yard. She enjoyed occasional trips Jackpot Junction to play the slots, spending time at their campsite at Breezy Point; years later at their cabin on Lake Manuella and getting together with family to share stories and play pull tabs at the VFW.
