John F. Glawe, age 85, of Glencoe, Minnesota, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, July 29, 2024, at Glencoe Regional Health in Glencoe.
Funeral Service will be held Saturday, August 3, 2024, 11:00 A.M. at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Helen Township, McLeod County, Minnesota, with interment in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held Saturday, August 3, 2024, from 10:00-11:00 A.M., one hour prior to the service at the church.
Obituary
John Frederick Glawe was born July 19, 1939, in Jackson, Minnesota. He was the son of Fred and Juanita (Williams) Glawe. John was baptized on October 22, 1939, by Pastor A. H. Fritschel, and later confirmed in his faith as a youth on May 1, 1955, by Pastor George Krebs, both at Salem Lutheran Church in Jackson, Minnesota. John received his education in Jackson and graduated with the Jackson High School class of 1957.
John served in the United States Army National Guard, Company B, 2nd Battalion, from 1956 to 1959, and received an Honorable Discharge. In 1962, he was reclassified due to the Cuban Missile Crisis. The Crisis was resolved and he received a final Honorable Discharge that same year.
On May 9, 1959, John was united in marriage to Sharon K. Weiland by Pastor Ruthenbeck at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn, Minnesota. The couple resided in Cedar, Minnesota, and later moved to a farm in rural Green Isle, Minnesota. They were blessed with 3 children; John, Julie, and Nancy. John and Sharon shared over 65 years together.
John led a very active life with the jobs and activities he participated in. He worked for Maxwell Aircraft for 2 years in Crystal, Minnesota, Federal Cartridge in Anoka, Minnesota for 7 years, and was a dairy farmer in Helen Township, Green Isle, Minnesota for 12 years. John and Sharon spent a year in Florida where John was a bus driver for Walt Disney World. Upon returning to Minnesota, John went to work for Lake Region Medical in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota for 19 years. John and Sharon enjoyed being in the antique business for 9 years as well. Upon retirement, he was a volunteer driver for Trail Blazer Transit for 15 years. John was a Cub Scout Leader in Cedar, Minnesota, and a 4-H Leader for the Sibley County Weeping Willows Club. He was a council member for 15 years and held various offices for 21 years at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Helen Township, Minnesota, and enjoyed singing in the mixed choir and men’s choir there for 30 years.
John and Sharon enjoyed traveling overseas and going on cruises. He enjoyed listening to music and watching live theatre performances. John truly cherished the time he spent with his family and friends.
John passed away peacefully on Monday, July 29, 2024, surrounded by family at Glencoe Regional Health at the age of 85 years. Blessed be his memory.

John was preceded in death by his Father and Mother, Fred and Juanita Glawe; Father-in-law and Mother-in-law, Norman and Viola Weiland; Son, John R. Glawe; Sister, Rena Sathoff and her husband, Robert; Brother-in-law, Richard Weiland; Son-in-law, Mark Fonfara; Niece, Rae Sathoff.
