Obituary
Yvonne Helen (Born) Mooney was born on December 28, 1941, in Shakopee, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Vernon and Helen (Dupslaff) Born. Yvonne was baptized as an infant and later confirmed in her faith as a youth at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waconia, Minnesota. She grew up on a farm just outside of Cologne, Minnesota. Yvonne graduated from Waconia High School in 1959. She continued her education at the Minneapolis School of Business for a year to become a medical transcriptionist.
On June 25, 1966, Yvonne was united in marriage to Michael Mooney at St. George Catholic Church in Glencoe, Minnesota. Together, they made their home in Waconia for 2 years, followed by living in Cologne for 5 years. In 1973, they moved to Young America, Minnesota, which is where they have lived to this day. Yvonne and Mike were blessed with 3 children: Ann, Patrick, and Sarah. The couple shared over 58 years of marriage.
Yvonne was employed as a Medical Transcriptionist at Lakeview Clinic and Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia for over 30 years and retired in 2005. Yvonne enjoyed listening to music and loved travelling to Duluth for the Bayfront BluesFest each year. While raising her children, she and Michael often went on camping trips to many different Minnesota State Parks. She had a deep love for the theater, finding joy in attending plays, live performances, and especially cherished her yearly tradition of seeing the Nutcracker ballet. She enjoyed shopping for books at Barnes & Noble and bought more than she could ever read in a lifetime. She loved to throw a party for any occasion or attend any celebration. On any beautiful summer day, she loved to sit in the sun with a cold beer at the picnic table, a tradition that started with her parents and that she passed down to her children. While she delighted in sitting on the couch to watch a movie with a heartwarming ending, her favorite movie was ‘Same Time Next Year’, and she watched it once a year, every year. She was famous for her Special K bars, cinnamon rolls, and baking cookies at Christmas, none more so than her gingerbread men. A stickler on grammar and spelling errors, she could spell any word and almost every medical term or medicine name. One of the many things that made her unique was the fact that she shook hands with former presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama. Yvonne was a very loving mother and indulging grandmother. Above all, she cherished the time spent with her family and friends, holding those moments closest to her heart.
Yvonne passed away peacefully with family by her side on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia, at the age of 83 years, 4 months, and 9 days. Blessed be her memory.
