Obituary

Bruce Charles Schultz was born on October 9, 1934, on the family farm in Martinsburg, Township, rural Buffalo Lake, Minnesota. He was the son of Martin and Myrtle (Marquardt) Schultz. Bruce was baptized as an infant and later confirmed in his faith as a youth at Methodist Church in Hector, Minnesota. He received his education in Buffalo Lake and Hector, and was a graduate of the Buffalo Lake/Hector High School Class of 1953.

Bruce was united in marriage to Phyllis Hagen. This marriage was blessed with three children, Greg, Brenda, and Brad. Bruce married Rosemary Stenberg on August 11, 1981, in South Dakota. Together they bought and refurbished several cabins and family homes. Bruce and Rosemary resided in Hutchinson, Minnesota, and spent the winter months in both southern and northern Florida. They shared 43 years of marriage.

Bruce was employed with Buffalo Lake Public Schools doing maintenance and driving bus. During high school, he started field tiling/draining during the summers, eventually owning and operating his own business, Schultz Tiling. His sons, Greg and Brad joined him and they later started their own tiling business. Bruce retired in 1997. Bruce was a member of the Lions Club in both Dassel, Minnesota, and Buffalo Lake. He was also a member of the Rod and Gun Club in Dassel and the Buffalo Lake Fire Department for many years.

Bruce earned his pilot license in high school. He loved flying and found time to take many Sunday fly-ins. He owned several airplanes during his lifetime. He took his last flight at the age of 85. In his younger years, Bruce enjoyed fishing with his father, taking many winter and summer trips up north. Hunting played a big part in Bruce’s life. He hunted elk, moose, and buffalo with his life-long friend, Curtiss, in Northern Minnesota, Colorado, Wyoming, and Alaska. During the winters, Bruce enjoyed working on and restoring projects, including: building a 1920’s Bugatti Roadster, restoring a 1953 Dodge Sedan for his 50th class reunion, 1930’s Model-T pickup, and a World War 1 “Snoopy” Bi-plane. He cherished spending time with his family, grandchildren and friends.
