Obituary

Barbara “Barb” Jean Carlson was born on January 16, 1942, in Willmar, Minnesota. She was the first-born daughter of Edward and Tillie (Ahl) Carlson. Barb was baptized as an infant and later confirmed in her faith as a youth, both at Palmyra Covenant Church in Palmyra Township, rural Hector, Minnesota. She received her education in Hector, and was a graduate of the Hector High School Class of 1960.

After graduation Barb moved to Bloomington, Minnesota where she was employed at the University of Minnesota. She worked as the Executive Director Administrative Assistant at Coffman Memorial Union. Barb truly connected with both staff and students who knew she was the one to talk to if needing guidance or advice. She was a loyal Golden Gopher fan and proud of her role in university life. She retired in 1997 after more than 35 years of service and moved back to her hometown of Hector.

In her free time, Barb could be found exploring thrift shops for a potential treasure. She had a generous heart and found joy in spoiling others with her special, thoughtful gifts. Her compassion was also evident in the care of her cats. She was an avid and competitive bingo player. She loved traveling to tropical paradise locations and always talked of returning again someday. Barb especially enjoyed spending time volunteering with her Lioness friends and celebrating with family.

Barb passed away on Monday, June 16, 2025, at Buffalo Lake Healthcare Center in Buffalo Lake, at the age of 83 years.
