Barbara J. Micka

Obituary

Barbara Jean Micka was born on June 12, 1935, in Tracy, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Roy and Irene (Whitman) Madden. Barbara was baptized as an infant at the Methodist Church in Lynd, Minnesota, and was later confirmed in her faith as a youth at the Methodist Church in Marshall, Minnesota. She attended country school in Marshall for three years. Barbara continued her education in Lynd, and was a graduate of Lynd Public School class of 1953. She furthered her education at the University of Minnesota, St. Paul Campus, and received her Licensed Practical Nursing Degree in 1955.

On January 12, 1957, Barbara was united in marriage to Wayne Micka at the Methodist Church in Marshall, Minnesota. This marriage was blessed with three children, Greg, Dorann, and Jeff. Barbara and Wayne made their home in Hutchinson, Minnesota, in 1957. They shared 63 years of marriage until Wayne passed away on February 17, 2020.

Barbara was employed as a Licensed Practical Nurse for many Minnesota hospitals and nursing homes including Granite Falls, Fairmont, Hutchinson, and Burns Manor. She retired in September, 1990. Barbara was a member of Faith Presbyterian Church in Silver Lake, Minnesota, where she served as a Sunday school teacher and taught Women’s Fellowship. She was also a member of American Legion Auxiliary Post 96 and served many spaghetti suppers at the Legion.

Barbara enjoyed singing and sang in church choirs off and on since High School. She was a TOPS member for 47 years and enjoyed bowling on the Plowman’s bowling team. Along with her husband, Barbara served Meals on Wheels and volunteered at the Hospital Gift Store and the café. They were members of a Relay for Life team for 9 years. Barbara made hundreds of dozens of Kolaches, and in her spare time, liked to do needle work with plastic canvas to make as gifts. She cherished time spent with her family, grandchildren, and friends.

Barbara passed away on Monday, July 14, 2025, at Ecumen Pines in Hutchinson, at the age of 90 years.

Barbara is preceded in death by her Parents, Roy and Irene Madden; Husband, Wayne Micka; Siblings, Cletus Madden, LaVonne (Leslie “Pete”) Griffith.
