Darlene M. Sytsma, age 89, of Hutchinson, Minnesota, passed away on Sunday, September 28, 2025, at Manor Lake in Dawsonville, Georgia.
Funeral Service will be Friday, October 10, 2025, 11:00 A.M., at Dobratz-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Hutchinson, with interment in Oakland Cemetery in Hutchinson.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the chapel.
Memorials preferred to the Alzheimer’s Association in Darlene’s honor.
Obituary
Darlene Mae Sytsma, age 89, of Hutchinson, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2025. She was born on April 26, 1936, in Fairmont, Minnesota, to Wilbur and Polly Marker. She was baptized as an infant and later confirmed in her faith as a youth, both at Sherburn Methodist Church in Sherburn, Minnesota, laying the foundation of her strong faith which she carried throughout her life.
Darlene attended Sherburn Schools and later worked part-time in the food service industry, at local schools and restaurants, where she enjoyed sharing her cooking skills and warm hospitality with others.
On January 7, 1953, Darlene married the love of her life, Warren Sytsma, in Sherburn. Together they shared many happy years, raising Debra, Stan and Greg, and making lifelong memories. Darlene’s devotion to her family was evident in everything she did, and she took great pride in being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Darlene’s love of life showed in her many hobbies, including gardening, where she created a beautiful yard full of flowers, particularly hydrangeas, that was enjoyed by family and friends. She was also known for her love of baking, especially her famous cookies, which she baked for her grandchildren with great joy. During the holidays, Darlene’s love of decorating, especially at Christmas time, it filled her home with warmth and cheer. She enjoyed shopping, attending garage sales, and was a talented roller skater in her youth.
She was a dedicated member of Vineyard Methodist Church in Hutchinson, where she participated in Sarah Circle.
Darlene’s family was her greatest treasure. She is survived by her:

Grandchildren, LaNisha (Tim) Paddock of Lino Lakes, MN, Monique Sytsma of Farmington, MN, Andrew (Lauren) Sytsma of Belmont, NC, Beth (Nathan) Kennedy of Dawsonville, GA, and Meg (Brandon) Blake of Cumming, GA;
Great-grandchildren, Makenzie DeGracia-Sytsma, Pierce Paddock, Aavian Edwards, Lilyana Paddock, Emery Blake, Turner Blake, Everett Kennedy, and Ty Kennedy;
Siblings, Dorothy Ahrenstorff and Dennis Marker;
as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her Parents, Wilbur and Polly Marker; Beloved Husband, Warren Sytsma; and Siblings, Raymond Haase, Richard Haase, and Donna Quade.
Rest in peace, Darlene Mae Sytsma. You have touched many lives with your warmth, love, and faith.
