Ruth M. Olson

Obituary

Ruth Mae Olson was born on June 29, 1928, in New Ulm, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Edward and Anna (Schroeder) Steffen. Ruth was baptized as an infant and later confirmed in her faith as a youth, both at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gibbon, Minnesota. She received her education through the eighth grade at country school.

On August 22, 1948, Ruth was united in marriage to Kermit Olson at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gibbon. This marriage was blessed with four children, Pam, Judy, Steven and Sharon. Ruth and Kermit lived on and farmed Ruth’s family farm in Grafton Township, Sibley County, Minnesota. They shared 63 years of marriage, until Kermit passed away on April 17, 2010.

Ruth was a hard worker and loved working on the family farm. They raised cattle, ducks, chickens and hogs. Ruth was well known as the “Rug Lady”. She made many beautiful rugs and placemats of all sizes, shapes and colors by hand and often traveled to craft shows to sell them. Ruth was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Buffalo Lake.

Ruth enjoyed spending time in her vegetable garden and canning peaches, cucumbers and corn. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren and friends.

Ruth passed away on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at Buffalo Lake Healthcare Center in Buffalo Lake, at the age of 97 years.

Great-grandchildren, Preston Bashans, Gabriel Bashans, Grayson Bashans, Maddin Bashans, Emrey Kruse, Ellis Kruse, Enzo Kruse, Olivia Jacobs, Aiden Jacobs;
many other relatives and friends.

Ruth is preceded in death by her Parents, Edward and Anna Steffen; Husband, Kermit Olson; Son, Steven Olson; Daughter, Sharon Olson; Grandson, Mackenzie LaPlante in infancy; Brother, Warren Steffen.
