Obituary

James “Jimmy Joe” Joseph Dickmeyer was born on January 21, 1939, in Fairfax, Minnesota. He was the cherished son of Mathilda (Bruggeman) and Benjamin Dickmeyer of Fairfax, Minnesota. Jim was baptized as an infant and later confirmed in his faith, both at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Fairfax. He received his education in Fairfax and was a graduate of the Fairfax High School class of 1957. Jim furthered his education at the the University of Minnesota for two years and transferred to Mankato State University for two years, graduating with a teaching degree. He grew up in Fairfax and lived in Robbinsdale and Osseo, Minnesota.

A man of many passions, Jim will be fondly remembered for his love of the outdoors. An avid hunter and angler, he found joy and peace in nature—whether casting a line into a quiet lake, rising before dawn for deer season, or simply watching the world wake around him. He was also a skilled pilot who delighted in flying, finding freedom and beauty in the open sky.

Jim proudly played baseball under Dick Siebert, his coach, and memorably played a game in which “Jimmy Joe” Dickmeyer struck out every batter in a seven-inning ball game. He graduated playing for Mankato State University. His talent earned him a contract with the Cincinnati Reds, but an injury prevented him from pursuing a professional career. Instead, he poured his passion and energy into education, working for many years as an 8th-grade English teacher at Hosterman Middle School, where he inspired countless students with his patience, humor, and wisdom.

In retirement, Jim enjoyed wintering in Florida, golfing, and spending cherished time with family and friends. His laughter, kindness, and steady presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

To honor Jim’s memory, take a moment to enjoy the great outdoors—walk barefoot through the grass, cast a fishing line, climb into a deer stand before dawn, toss a baseball, or watch the graceful flight of a bird across the sky. He would want to be remembered that way.

James Joseph Dickmeyer, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2025, at 8:20 a.m. Blessed be his memory.

Jim is survived by his
wife, Marlys Dickmeyer of Princeton, MN;
sons, Gary Dickmeyer and his wife, Colette of Duluth, MN, and
Daniel Dickmeyer and his wife, Elizabeth of Princeton, MN;
his treasured granddaughter, Isabella Dickmeyer;
sister, Barbara Heymans of FL.

Jim was preceded in death by his Parents, Benjamin and Mathilda Dickmeyer; Siblings, Benjamin Dickmeyer Jr., and his wife, Darleen, and Mitzi Riesgraph and her husband, Roger; Brother-in-law, Gene Heymans.
