Obituary

Karen was born October 20, 1944, in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, and spent her youth on her family’s farm in Dent, Minnesota, with her father and mother, Vincent and Lois (Noble) Phelps. She was baptized into the church on April 1, 1945, and was later confirmed on May 31, 1959. Karen furthered her education for one year at Detroit Lakes Business College. She worked various jobs throughout her life but was first and foremost a dedicated wife and mother.

On June 8, 1963, Karen married the love of her life, Donald William Dose at Maine Presbyterian Church in Maine, Minnesota. They began their married life in Aberdeen, South Dakota, before settling in Hutchinson, Minnesota. Their marriage was blessed by two sons, Dale Vincent and Theodore Wayne Dose. They shared 26 years of marriage together until Don passed away on July 2, 1989. On November 5, 1994, Karen married her second life partner, Stanley Anthony Scieszka at Christ the King Lutheran Church. The two resided in Hutchinson, until Stan’s passing on August 11, 2020.

Karen’s interests were her family, church, and her heritage. She was 13th generation of a family who came to America from Netherlands and England on Little James in 1623. Karen was a member of the B.P.O. Does and served as Secretary for many years. Crafting was a passion of hers; she enjoyed quilting at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Hutchinson, and working with artificial flowers, making arrangements, corsages, and baskets to decorate her home. She was an avid Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Wild fan, watching games whenever she could and serving as an excellent “couch coach.” One of her great joys was cooking for her family and friends, collecting recipes and trying new meals, never letting anyone she loved go hungry. Karen was an excellent cook, known for her delicious potato soup, crazy chocolate cake, and perfectly mashed potatoes. She was always sure to have her children and grandchildren’s favorite dishes ready when they came to visit. These visits were cherished time, as her family was the greatest accomplishment and joy of her life.

Karen’s beauty, smile, dry sense of humor, and her gentle ways will be deeply missed by those who loved her.
May she rest peacefully and rejoice eternally in the kingdom of Heaven.

Karen is survived by her
Son, Dale Dose and wife Sandy of Apple Valley, MN;
Son, Theodore Dose and wife Carrie of Jackson, MN;
Grandchildren, Andrew, Rebecca, Sydney, Nathan, and Mackenzie Dose;
Dear Friends, Jean Reiner and Louise Schroeder.

Karen was preceded in death by her Parents, Vincent and Lois Phelps; Husband, Donald Dose; Husband, Stanley Scieszka.

    With Heartfelt sympathy! Spent many years working with Karen at Kmart. After that, so enjoyed our Kmart gals lunches together monthly to catch up on each other’s life. She will be missed!
