Obituary
Robert Eugene Iverson (Bob) was born on March 25, 1949, to Paul and Ruth (Nelson) Iverson at the Luverne Municipal Hospital in Luverne, Minnesota. He was baptized on April 17, 1949, by Pastor L.P. Lund at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Luverne, and confirmed on June 2, 1963, by Pastor Paul Peterson at Bethany Lutheran Church, also in Luverne. He was raised on the family farm, and for his entire life, loved the hustle and bustle of farm life. He graduated from Luverne High School on June 1, 1967, and attended Austin State Junior College, earning his associate’s degree on June 12, 1969. Bob was on wrestling teams in high school and college. He continued his education at Moorhead State College, earning a Bachelor of Science in Education Degree in the spring of 1971.
Bob became a fifth-grade elementary teacher at Glencoe Middle School in the fall of 1971, but he also taught fourth graders at Helen Baker Elementary in his last years as a Glencoe teacher. While teaching at the Middle School, Bob coached middle school wrestling, girls’ tennis, cross country, behind-the-wheel drivers’ education, and motorcycle safety training. In August 1987, Bob completed his Master of Science Degree at Mankato State University and went on to complete his administrator’s degree on June 7, 1991. That fall, he took an administrative internship at Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton, becoming the elementary principal at Pemberton. He worked there until the spring of 1992, when, during budget cuts, he resigned, hoping to save teaching positions. That summer, he took a principalship at Springfield Public Schools. He was there from 1992 through 1995. In 1995, he became the elementary principal at Central Elementary School in Norwood Young America. He retired on June 30, 2009, after fourteen years at Central.
Bob loved working in the field of education. He was a member of MEA, NEA, MESPA, and Lions. He believed in being a lifelong learner and that every teacher and student should strive to become the best person they could become. This message was sent through inspirational passages and quotes he found and put on various memos, opening day school letters, and notes to staff and students. He was a devout Christian and was a member of Christ Lutheran Church since moving to Glencoe. He served on the church board and was a mentor for confirmation students.
Bob met his wife, Sharon Louise Reznechek, in 1978 when she was hired as an English teacher at the Glencoe Middle School. They were married at Christ Lutheran Church in Glencoe on July 26, 1980. A few years later, they moved to a rural home. Bob collected old tractors and farm equipment and enjoyed using them to maintain his property. He enjoyed pheasant and duck hunting with the six golden retrievers he raised, trained, and loved, and he was a member of Pheasants Forever. Other activities and hobbies he enjoyed included camping trips to the Boundary Waters, trips on his motorcycle, skiing trips with friends and family to Michigan, family camping trips to state parks using his RV trailer, fishing, gardening, raising a few chickens, building model cars, and photography. After his retirement, he spent time with family and friends at his lake cabin in northern Minnesota. Bob and Sharon were married for 45 years and were blessed with three children, Sonja, Seth, and Samantha. He was a devoted, loving husband, father, and grandfather who treasured being with his children, son-in-law, and grandsons.
Due to health issues, Bob lived the last year of his life at Cedar Crest Estate in Silver Lake, Minnesota. He was cared for by a kind and dedicated staff and his loving wife. He was surrounded by his family when he went to his heavenly home on Friday, December 5, at the age of 76 years, 8 months, and 11 days. Bob will be greatly missed. Blessed be his memory.

Sharon, Sonja, Seth and Samantha,
My very deepest sympathies to you for the loss of your husband/Dad.
Bob was always kind to me while I was teaching DAPE at the Elementary. I enjoyed our quick conversations about life when I’d see him for a few minutes on my way back to the MS.

I’m so sorry to hear this! Both Mr. and Mrs. Iverson were some of the best teachers we had in Glencoe! I learned so much in his science class and he wasn’t afraid to let his students have fun while learning. Prayers for comfort and peace during this difficult time.

Sharon & family,
My heart is filled with great sadness in hearing about the passing of Bob. There are so many attributes that I admired about Bob. His calm and positive character were always appreciated. He is a huge reason for me continuing to pursue being an elementary teacher. Seeing a male remodel in a female dominated field opened the doors of possibility. When I hear my students and their families comment on me being the first “boy” teacher in their lives…well I get the passionate opportunity to share the story of my first “boy” teacher, the great Mr. Iverson. His legacy will continue in my shared stories and hopes of being the calm and compassionate listening educator he always was for his students and their families. Peace and love to each of you from my family to your family during your time of remembrance.

Bob was a treasured school classmate and lifelong contact on our class website. He was beloved and respected for his solid contributions to raising the next generation. Bob will be greatly missed and long admired.

I am grateful to have had Mr. Iverson as my fifth grade teacher. He was kind, funny and well-organized. It was obvious that he loved his job. My favorite part of the school day was the read-aloud session after lunch (often with him using dramatic voices for different characters!) I can even remember specific books that he read to us–my favorite was A Cricket in Times Square.
God’s blessings on your family as you navigate the grief that comes from having loved so deeply.

To Bob. I have many great memories of you. Just a few of our shared times at the middle school , coaching wrestling, the boundary wasters, paper (fantasy) football, fishing and hunting trips, being neighbors, sharing conversations, being a part of our kids education.
To Sharon and family. Our hearts go out to you at this time. Please know that we are thinking of you and send you our best wishes.

My sincerest condolences go out to Mr. Iverson’s loved ones and to all the students and faculty members he inspired and nurtured over the years, a positive influence I know firsthand.
Mr. Iverson was my 4th-grade teacher at Lincoln Elementary, and my very first teacher in Glencoe after moving there from St. Paul. He was not only a welcoming, calm presence but also an inspirational role model to me. He and Mrs. Iverson (who I later had as an English teacher) fostered not only my love of learning and reading but also my eventual passion for teaching young people.
I think of them often, both on great teaching days and on difficult ones. I frequently find myself remembering the encouraging yet expectant manner of Mr. Iverson’s teaching when I am stretching my students in their thinking and moving them out of their comfort zones to learn new things.
I especially cherished his read-alouds, which he continued even past the age when many teachers stopped sitting their students down to simply read together for the pure joy of sharing a book.
His memory remains vibrant for me, and his profound legacy continues to shape lives.
Thank you both, Mr. and Mrs. Iverson.
Sincerely,
Stevie Combs née Hansen
