Obituary

Robert John (RJ) Nohr was born June 17, 1950, in Green Bay, Wisconsin, to Grace Mildred (Peper) Nohr and Alvin Frances Nohr. He was baptized at summer camp and attended Chilton High School. He furthered his education at Crown College, when it was still St. Paul Bible College, graduating with a degree in Bible and Theology.

RJ married Beverly Bullwinkle on May 8, 1976, at First Presbyterian Church in Maple Plain.  They lived in Billings, Montana, for 1 year where RJ was a radio DJ. The couple then moved to Mound, Minnesota, for 3 years and then settled and raised their two girls for 20 years on a 5 acre farm outside of Delano, Minnesota. For the past 12 years, RJ and Beverly have lived on the Dunlooken Farm in Glencoe with their oldest daughter Shannon and her family.

RJ and Bev spent most of their 40 years together raising dairy goats and other animals, growing vegetables on their small hobby farm.  He greatly enjoyed his time helping raise both his 2 children and living next door to his 3 grandchildren.  A salesman by trade, RJ spent 39 years working for Daytons/Marshall Fields and Gabberts selling carpet and oriental rugs.  He was known as a giving person; even in death his giving continues as his donation of tissues will touch the lives of many people.

RJ passed away suddenly Tuesday, May 10, 2016, at Glencoe Regional Health Care Services in Glencoe, Minnesota, after collapsing at home, at the age of 65 years, 10 months and 23 days.

RJ is deeply missed.  He was an optimistic man with a heart full of joy and love. RJ’s faith in Jesus makes us all rest easier, knowing he wasn’t fearful of death, but looked forward to life in heaven.  Blessed be his memory.

“Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.” Psalm 116:15

RJ is survived by his:
Wife, Bev Nohr of Glencoe, MN;
mother and step father, Grace Bernhardt and her husband, Ralph, of Manitowoc, WI;
daughters, Shannon Mattson and her husband, Jeremy, of Glencoe, MN,
Megan Gonzales and her husband, David, of Aurora, CO;
grandchildren, Luke, Joe and Samantha Mattson;
siblings, Kathy Lorenz (Ed), Judith Anderson (Mark), Jim Nohr, Mary Schussman (Randy), Barb Loomer (Butch), Lori Hardrath (Greg), Susan Hardrath (Terry), Chuck O’Neil (Jennifer), Jane Richardson (Steve);
also many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

RJ is preceded in death by his father, Alvin Nohr, father-in-law & mother-in-law, David and LaMata Bullwinkle.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred for restoring his Farmall M tractor, something he always wanted to do.  That way it may be used on his farm for many generations to come.

On June 18, 2016, the family is planning to have a celebration on the farm where we can all work together to finish RJ’s “summer projects”. You can RSVP now to come for any part of the day. Hopefully soon we will add more information at the website ~ goo.gl/qYtz7B

    Beverly. I kept saying that I’d get up there to see you guys. Well, I will be making it a little. May the lord give you strength to endure all. I am sure that his tractor will be restored by the friends and neighbors. And, I WILL MAKE IT up there. God Love you.

    The kindest man you will ever meet!
    I thank God for my big brother. He taught me to love, be kind and work hard. I remember as a child (the youngest of 10), he was always nice to me. He would come home from college and let me sit on his lap while he sang to me. The song I remember the most was “Puff the Magic Dragon” and he would play the guitar and let me strum the strings. When it snowed he would take me to spin doughnuts in his gold/rust colored Dodge Charger. We never got caught. He would always greet me with a hug and say “How is my favorite sister!” which I knew was a lie because he had 7 sisters and we were all his favorite, but I loved to hear him say it anyway.
    I will miss him dearly and am so happy that some day I will see him again in heaven. He loved the Lord first, his beautiful wife and children second, and his family and others third.
    Thank you RJ for being such for touching my life here on earth.
    Love,
    Jane

    Bev, I received an email from Kurt Anderson yesterday and I’m so sorry about RJ’s passing. My wife and son had the opportunity to meet him about five year ago at Gabberts and purchased a rug from him. Are prayers go out to you and your family. God Bless.

    RJ and I worked together at Daytons for at least 20 years before we discovered that we were second cousins. His grandfather and mine were brothers. I am so sorry to learn of RJ’s passing, but am confident that he is in a very good place. My condolences to Bev and the family.

    RJ and I worked together for many years at Daytons. At Gabberts, we were fortunate to have RJ join our carpet and rug department. My daughters and spouses have commented on how professional and helpful RJ was when they were looking at carpet. He had such a natural and and a genuine caring manner that made him such a great sales professional. He will be missed by all of his customers and co-workers.

    Bev and family – The obituary says it so well. He was a kind and generous man who enjoyed the important things in life.
    A life well-lived and gone too soon. May you all find healing in the memories created through the years.

    Oh my gosh, I am so shocked and saddened by this news. I will truly miss RJ’s gentle spirit. His visits at the store were always great. There should be more men in this world like him.
