Service Information

Earl F Ayer, age 96, of Elk River, Minnesota, and formerly of Glencoe, Minnesota, passed away on Saturday, June 11, 2016, at Guardian Angels Care Center in Elk River, Minnesota. 

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, June 25, 2016, 11:00 A. M. at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Glencoe, Minnesota, with interment following at the Glencoe City Cemetery in Glencoe, Minnesota.

Visitation will be held Saturday, June 25, 2016, from 10:00 - 11:00 A.M., one hour prior the service at the church.

Obituary

Earl Fred Ayer was born on March 31, 1920, at home at Rush River, Minnesota.  He was the only child of Edgar and Amelia (Bach) Ayer.  Earl was baptized as an infant on May 9, 1920, by Rev. Ed Schlachtenhaufer at Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sibley County, Minnesota, and later was confirmed in his faith as a youth.  He received his education thru the 8th grade at Henry Hill School in Glencoe, Minnesota. 

On February 28, 1953, Earl was united in marriage to Tena Rannow at Church of Peace in Glencoe, Minnesota.  Earl moved to Glencoe at 9 years old and farmed with his parents.  Earl and Tena made their home on that farm in Glencoe, Minnesota.  Their marriage was blessed with two children, David and Debra.  Earl and Tena shared over 44 years of marriage until Tena passed away on January 7, 1998.

Earl was a farmer that continued to maintain his dairy farm and was dedicated to its success.  He was active in his faith community.  Earl was a member of Church of Peace and, later, First Congregational United Church of Christ both in Glencoe.

Earl was a devoted and loving father.  He enjoyed fishing, watching baseball games, attending threshing shows and playing cards.  In Earl’s later years, he loved to bake bread and make desserts.  He treasured the time spent with friends and family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. 

Earl passed away on Saturday, June 11, 2016, at Guardian Angels Care Center in Elk River, Minnesota, at the age of 96 years, 2 months and 11 days.

Son, David Ayer of New Ulm, MN;
Daughter, Debra “Deb” Kopperud and her husband, Jim, of Zimmerman, MN;
Grandchildren, Erik Kopperud and his wife, Nikki,
Kelly Planton and her husband, Dan,
Rachel Ayer,
Angie Goebel and her husband, Ryan,
Brita DeLaet;
Great Grandchildren, Madelyn and Eliot Planton;
Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, Other relatives and many friends.

Earl is preceded in death by his Parents, Edgar and Amelia Ayer; Wife, Tena Ayer; Many other relatives and friends.

    Dave, Deb & family – our sympathies in the loss of your dad. How lucky you are to have had him for so long! Take comfort in your memories and the legacy he has left for you.
