Richard “Dick” Edward Mattson, age 70, of Hutchinson, Minnesota, passed away Friday, August 12, 2016, at Dassel Lakeside Nursing Home in Dassel, Minnesota.
Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, August 17, 2016, at 10:30 A.M., at the Riverside Church in Hutchinson with Interment in Oakland Cemetery in Hutchinson.
Visitation will be Tuesday, August 16, 2016 from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. at Riverside Church and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Obituary
Richard “Dick” Edward Mattson was born on January 23, 1946, in Hutchinson, Minnesota. He was the son of Lyle & Betty Mattson. Dick was baptized as an infant at Vineyard United Methodist and had been attending Riverside Church (formerly Riverside Assembly of God) since 1950. He attended school in Dassel, Minnesota and was a graduate of the Dassel High School class of 1963. He furthered his education at North Central Bible College in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
On June 28, 1969, Dick married the love of his life, Sandra “Sandee” Olson at Hutchinson Assembly of God. Their marriage was blessed with three daughters, Lynn, Bethani, and Jodele. Dick and Sandee were an amazing example of a Godly, Christ-centered marriage. Together they lived by the principle of serving God, then family, then others. As his pastor, Dr. Lee Allison, pointed out, “they left a mark on many souls.”
Dick held employment at Honeywell Inc.in Golden Valley, Minnesota and Super Valu Company in Hopkins, Minnesota as a warehouseman. He retired in the summer of 2002.
Dick was honorable, compassionate, loving, faithful, a man of integrity, generous, merciful and so much more. He extended respect and unconditional love to all those he met. Dick used his God-given gifts, talents and passion to serve in the Royal Ranger and Frontiersman Camping Fellowship ministries at Riverside for over 30 years. His impact extends from generation to generation. Dick enjoyed hunting and loved watching NASCAR. He was an exceptional craftsman and woodworker. What Dick took most pride in and found the most joy in was spending time with his children and grandchildren. He often traveled to their homes for birthdays and special occasions.
Dick passed away on Friday, August 12th, 2016, at Dassel Lakeside Nursing Home in Dassel, Minnesota.

Children: Lynn Mattson, San Jose, CA;
Bethani (Rittgers) and her husband, Timothy of Broken Arrow, OK;
Jodele (Patchett) and her husband, Matthew of Toledo, OH;
Grandchildren: Brianna, Jordan and Zachary Rittgers;
Isabella, Ethan and Avery Patchett;
Sisters: Victoria (Marvin) Stuber, Hutchinson, MN;
Colleen (Steve) Menze, Hutchinson,MN;
Mary Griep, Darwin, MN;
De (Roy) Guerrero, Dassel, MN;
Brother: Duane (Elba) Mattson, Hutchinson, MN;
Sisters-in-law: Shari (Sheldon) Crouse;
Judy Olson;
Shelly (Kent) Scott;
Brother-in-law: Phil (Linda) Olson;
Many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
Dick was preceeded in death by his loving wife, Sandee; his parents, Lyle and Betty Mattson; Brothers-in-law, Larry Griep, Michael Mortensen and Chuck Sullivan.
