Service Information
Donna Koopman, age 77 years, of Hutchinson, formerly of Buffalo Lake, passed away Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at the Buffalo Lake Healthcare Center.
Private Family Service will be held Saturday, October 10, 2015, at 2:00 P.M. at the Hughes-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Hector.
Public Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service, from 1:00 – 2:00 P.M., on Saturday at the Hughes-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Hector.
Interment will be held in the Bird Island City Cemetery.
Obituary
Donna Jean Koopman was born November 22, 1937 at her parents’ home in Buffalo Lake, Minnesota, the daughter of Harry and Ruth (Olson) Ahlbrecht. She was baptized on December 19, 1937, at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Buffalo Lake, and was confirmed in her faith there on April 29, 1951. Donna grew up in Buffalo Lake, and graduated from the Buffalo Lake High School in 1955. She continued her education at the Minneapolis Business College, and graduated in 1957 from the Stenographic course. Donna worked in Minneapolis before returning to Buffalo Lake in 1958. She worked as an x-ray technician, and also at a legal firm in Cosmos.
Donna was married to Dennis Ulrich in 1958, but the marriage was later dissolved. On July 31, 1965, Donna was united in marriage to Thomas Koopman in Waite Park. They made their home in Buffalo Lake. Donna worked at Green Giant during the summers, and was employed with 3M. She was then employed at the Buffalo Lake Healthcare Center for 25 years as a nurse aide.
Donna appreciated the work of the Heart of Minnesota Animal Shelter, and would volunteer her time there. She was very crafty, and enjoyed scrapbooking, making greeting cards, and sewing. She liked to go fishing, and watch fireworks.
This past August Donna was hospitalized at the Hutchinson Hospital, being discharged to the Buffalo Lake Healthcare Center on September 28. On Wednesday afternoon, October 7, 2015, she passed away there, having reached the age of 77 years, 10 months, 15 days. Blessed be her memory.
Donna is survived by her children: Todd Ahlbrecht and his wife Faye of Brownton, MN, Steven Ulrich of Hutchinson, MN, Jill (Koopman) Turnipseed and her husband Gary of New Richmond, WI; grandchildren: Carissa (Ahlbrecht) Telecky and husband Thomas, Jenna (Ahlbrecht) Sweeney and friend Mike Mount, Janelle (Ahlbrecht) Roehl and husband Adam, Jeremiah Ahlbrecht, Jacob Ahlbrecht and friend Karissa Vos, Sara Ulrich and friend Josh Roggenbuck, Casey Turnipseed, Joey Turnipseed; great-grandchildren: Traktyn Sweeney, Evelyn Mount, Thomas Telecky, Nathan Telecky, William Telecky, George Roehl, Luella Roehl; other relatives, and friends.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Ruth Ahlbrecht.
