Obituary

Gladys Evelyn Alsleben was born on May 31, 1933, in Green Isle Township, Sibley County, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Alvin and Ella (Sauter) Voigt. Gladys was baptized as an infant on June 18, 1933, by Reverend Duesterhoeft, and was later confirmed in her faith as a youth on April 3, 1947, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Helen Township, McLeod County, Minnesota. She received her elementary education at St. John’s Lutheran Parochial School, and attended Glencoe High School and was a graduate of the Gaylord High School Class of 1951. She furthered her education at the Mankato Beauty College.

On April 16, 1952, Gladys was united in marriage to LeRoy Alsleben by Reverend Hesterberg at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gaylord. After their marriage, the couple resided in Gaylord where she worked as a cosmetologist for 40 years. This marriage was blessed with two children, Brenda and Brian. In her later years, Gladys was employed at Hands, Inc. in Winthrop. Gladys and LeRoy shared 44 years of marriage before LeRoy passed away on August 25, 1996.

She was also a member of the Manthey-Asmus American Legion Auxiliary #433 in Gaylord and was very active in the Minnesota Hairdresser Association and the local affiliate.

Gladys enjoyed bowling, walking, playing cards, decorating her home, making flower arrangements and going to wineries. My heartfelt sympathies to the entire family. We each know the day will arrive when He takes our loved ones home, but we are never fully prepared for its’ arrival. God bless you with strength through this difficult time. May the fond memories be your comfort. So many will miss Gladys and her smile. Now we smile, knowing that she is without the pain and dancing with the angels!
