Howard “Mike” Ackerson, age 99, of Glencoe, Minnesota, passed away peacefully Thursday, June 20, 2019, at his residence in Glencoe, Minnesota.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 26, 2019, 4:00-7:00 P.M. at the Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel in Glencoe, Minnesota.
Funeral Service will be held Friday, June 28, 2019, at 1:00 P.M. at First Baptist Church in Pillager, Minnesota, with a visitation one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be Saturday, June 29, 2019, 10:00 A.M. at Wildwood Cemetery in Pillager, Minnesota.
Obituary
Mike was born October 4, 1919 in Brainerd, MN to Charles and Nellie (Everist) Ackerson. He served in the US Army from 1941-1945. Mike was united in marriage to Doris Newkirk April 24, 1954 at the First Baptist Church in Pillager, MN. He worked as a dock man at Yellow Freight for 28+ years. Mike also enjoyed woodworking and gardening.
Mike is survived by his wife, Doris of 65 years; sons, Leo (Teresa), Lester, Larry (Sue), Lynn; eight grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Nellie Ackerson; son, Lorn; four brothers; one sister; and two step brothers.
