Service Information
Marvin Messner, age 87 of Winthrop passed away Sunday, November 28, 2021, at the Good Samaritan Society in Arlington.
Funeral Service will be Friday, December 3, 2021, 10:00 A.M. at the Apostolic Christian Church in Winthrop with interment in the Winthrop Cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday, December 2, 2021, from 4:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. at the Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Winthrop and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Military Honors by the Winthrop Honor Guard.
Obituary
Marvin Vernon Messner was born on April 6, 1934, in Lafayette, Minnesota. He was the son of Levi and Mae (Miller) Messner. Marvin was baptized as an adult at the Apostolic Christian Church in Winthrop. He received his education at country school in rural Gibbon.
On December 16, 1953, Marvin entered active military service and served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He received the National Defense Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal and the Korean Service Medal. Marvin was Honorably Discharged on November 30, 1961.
On March 6, 1971, Marvin was united in marriage to Geraldine Mensink at the Methodist Church in Arlington, Minnesota. After their marriage the couple resided in Winthrop. Marvin was employed at Wacholtz Construction. He did masonry work throughout his life, retiring in 2016. Marvin and Geraldine shared 36 years of marriage when Geraldine passed away on February 2, 2008.
Marvin was a life-long member of the Apostolic Christian Church in Winthrop.
Marvin enjoyed woodworking and masonry. He cherished the time he spent with his family, especially his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Marvin passed away on Sunday, November 28, 2021, at the Good Samaritan Society in Arlington at the age of 87 years. Blessed be his memory.

Children, Kimberly Moser and her husband, Todd of Donnelly, MN,
Dale Abrahamson of Ontario, CA, and
Peggy Jones and her husband, Dean of Owatonna, MN;
Grandchildren, Heather Moser, Timothy (Whitney) Jones, Katie (Christopher) Pederson, and Stefani, Corey and Brandon Abrahamson;
4 Great grandchildren, Mona, Renly, Savannah, Piper;
Sisters, Idabell Witt of Gibbon, MN, Shirley Demm of Winthrop, MN;
Brothers, Mike Messner and his wife, Joyce of Gaylord, MN, Don Messner of Peoria, IL, and Gerald Messner and his wife, Brenda of Hutchinson, MN;
Sisters-in-law, Vernita Messner of Winthrop, MN, and Bernadine Messner of Brownton, MN;
Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Marvin was preceded in death by his Parents, Levi and Mae Messner; Wife, Geraldine Messner; Sister, Hazel (Elmer) Schmidt; Brothers, Raymond Messner, Harold Messner, Melvin Messner, and Harvey Messner.

Marv Messner was one of my favorite people in Winthrop…and that is a long list. We did not see each other often but when we did Marv was a delight to have a conversation with about anything. He was a kind man who loved his Savior. Marv will be missed.
