Obituary

Adeline Dora (Rosnau) Laabs was born on September 3, 1920, to William and Ella (King) Rosnau in Bismarck Township, Sibley County, Minnesota. Adeline was baptized as an infant on September 26, 1920, and was later confirmed in her faith as a youth, both at Tabor Evangelical Church in Bismarck Township. Her confirmation Bible verses were Psalm 119:105 and Psalm 111:10. She attended country school District #76 in Bismarck Township.

Adeline was employed at the Hardware store in Winthrop where she met Marvin Laabs. Adeline later was employed at Fairway Foods in Winthrop.

Adeline and Marvin were married on September 28, 1960, in the Winthrop Evangelical Covenant Church. They lived on a farm between Winthrop and Stewart in McLeod County, Minnesota. Adeline was an active farm wife helping milk cows and care for them. They also raised pigs, chickens, ducks, and geese. They grew corn, beans, oats and alfalfa hay on their farm. They were blessed with two daughters, Mary and Lori. Adeline sold the farm site after her husband’s death and moved into an apartment in Winthrop. Adeline and Marvin shared 33 years of marriage when Marvin passed away on April 14, 1994.

Family was very important to Adeline. She enjoyed many family gatherings, especially birthdays, Christmas and Rosnau reunions. Adeline was active in the church, where she taught Sunday School and enjoyed attending Ladies Aid (now Women of the Word) and enjoyed attending the monthly Pastor’s Breakfast at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Fernando, Minnesota. The church activities and the church friends were a cherished part of Adeline’s life.

Adeline volunteered for many years at the Winthrop Nursing Home while she lived in Winthrop at the Amberfield Apartments for 23 years.

Adeline planted a vegetable garden on the farm; she canned and froze all varieties of fruits and vegetables. She also made wonderful jellies and jams. She enjoyed the beauty of flower gardens.

Adeline liked to cook and bake; she made yummy hotdishes and wonderful desserts. Christmas cookie baking was always a family affair. She loved any fancy decorating of cookies and cakes.

Adeline loved to sew, first making clothing for herself and her daughters, then making kids aprons and dress towels to sell at area Craft Sales. She loved to embroider and applique; she did such beautiful work. She went to a lot of Craft Sales with daughter, Mary to sell her wares. Adeline also liked to make quilts.

Adeline moved from Winthrop to The Rivers, a senior living apartment in Burnsville, Minnesota, which was closer to her two daughters. She later moved to New Perspective Living, a Memory Care facility in Prior Lake and then to Brookdale, a Dementia Care facility in Eden Prairie, Minnesota. Adeline was called home on October 3, 2020, at 10:15 P.M. in a TCU at Walker Methodist in Minneapolis, at the age of 100 years and one month. God bless her precious memory.

Following in Adeline’s tradition I bake about three dozen Stollen each year between thanksgiving and Christmas. My covering during the rising process is one of Adeline’s beautifully decorated towels—it brings to mind fond memories and certainly adds to the flavor—enjoy your new surroundings dear friend.
