Obituary

Agnes Margaret DeMeyer was born on March 3, 1930, at her rural home place in Grandview Township, Lyon County, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Silvere and Marie (Van Hove) Boncquet. Agnes was baptized as an infant and later confirmed as a youth at the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall, Minnesota. She received her education at the Saint Joseph Catholic School in Marshall and continued her education at Marshall High School graduating with the Class of 1947.

On April 3, 1951, Agnes was united in marriage to James G. DeMeyer at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall. This union was blessed with four children; Angeline, James R., Roger, and Carolyn. They shared 45 years of marriage together until James passed away in 1996.

Agnes spent many years enjoying her work. Her early years were spent as a housewife and mother to her children. She was a helpmate to her husband when they farmed near Lake Lillian. When the family moved to Hutchinson in 1970, she spent 30 years working at Burn’s Manor Nursing Home as a nursing assistant and a physical therapist assistant. After retiring in 2000, Agnes became a volunteer at Burn’s Manor. Here she passed out mail and brought a ray of sunshine and company to the residents.

Even with her busy work life, Agnes volunteered her time to various organizations. She belonged to the Hutchinson Hospital Auxiliary and Burn’s Manor Auxiliary. She was involved in the St. Anastasia Catholic Church choir. She also belonged to the St. Anastasia Catholic Council of Women where she volunteered time at her church assisting in funeral receptions, garage sales, and helping at the annual “Fall Festival.”

Agnes enjoyed her family as she spent many holidays and occasions with them. She enjoyed visiting with her grandchildren and attending their various events as they grew up. She truly enjoyed spending time with her work, family, and friends. People often said she had a “heart of gold” giving little care packages to those who were in need and sending cards to cheer and console people.

When Agnes needed assistance with her daily care, she became a resident at Harmony River Living Center on January 5, 2017. Agnes passed away there on Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at the age of 88 years. Blessed be her memory.
