Obituary

Annie Marie Plzak Hacker, also known as Annie Hacker Witte was born on June 28, 1927, in Sherman County, Pocahontas, Iowa. She was the daughter of Frank K. and Frances M. (Musel) Plzak. Annie was baptized as an infant in Pocahontas, Iowa, and was later confirmed in her faith as a youth at St. John’s Catholic Church in Hector, Minnesota. When Annie started school she only spoke Bohemian. Her family moved to Hector, Minnesota in 1938. Her schooling ended at 8th grade when she had to stay home and work on the family farm and helped milk cows.

On March 1, 1949, Annie was united in marriage to Walter Anthony Hacker at St. John’s Catholic Church in Hector. She met Wally when he came to pick up milk on the farm. He was the milk man with “red hair.” Annie and Wally purchased a farm by Cosmos, Minnesota and raised their eight children there, Marie, Betty, Barbara, Fred, Virginia, David, Edward, and Joseph. Annie’s best gift was when Wally brought her a Minneapolis Moline tractor that she named “Golden Beauty.” In later years, her son Joe restored the tractor and she was proud to show it off at fairs and thrashing shows. After Wally’s retirement, Annie and Wally purchased a motorhome and spent winters in Texas, Florida, and Arizona. Annie and Wally shared 44 years of marriage until Wally passed away on January 11, 1994.

On January 4, 1998, Annie was united in marriage to Rufus F. Witte at Victory Lutheran Church in Arizona. With this marriage came a step son, Warren. Annie continued going south for the winters with Rufus and they enjoyed traveling, fishing, visiting, and listening to old time music especially the Wendinger Band. Annie and Rufus shared 18 years of marriage until Rufus passed away on August 23, 2016.

Annie was a loving homemaker. She also helped out a lot on the farm by picking rock and working in the fields. Annie attended St. Anastasia Catholic Church in Hutchinson.

Annie enjoyed vegetable gardening, flower gardening and sewing. Annie was a great seamstress making drapes for family and friends and clothes for her children. Annie always enjoyed entertaining her family with an early Thanksgiving/Christmas party before heading south for the winters. A special time for her was when family gathered for the annual picnic in the park before the Hutchinson Water Carnival Parade. Other highlights for her were the annual Plzak Family Picnic, or attending the many Minnesota Minn-e-Rod pulls that her sons were involved in. She was their sponsor and number one fan! Her family will truly miss her at all these events.

When Annie needed assistance with her daily care, she became a resident at the Oaks in Hutchinson and recently moved to Meeker Manor Rehabilitation Center in Litchfield, Minnesota on June 7, 2018. She peacefully passed away there on Saturday morning, June 16, 2018, at the age of 90 years. Blessed be her memory.
