Service Information

Arlein G. Anderson, age 99, of Buffalo Lake, Minnesota, passed away on Tuesday, July 21, 2020, at Buffalo Lake Healthcare Center.

Memorial Service will be held on Monday, July 12, 2021, at 11:00 A.M. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hector, Minnesota with interment in the church cemetery.

Gathering of Family and Friends will be held on Sunday, July 11, 2021, from 4:00-7:00 P.M. at Hughes-Hantge Funeral Chapel and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Renville County Hospice, or Buffalo Lake Health Care Center. The family expresses their heartfelt thanks to the many friends and family who have already expressed their condolences through cards and memorials. Also, the family thanks the Buffalo Lake Health Care Center for all the compassionate care that was given to Arlein.

Obituary

Arlein Geneva (Raitz) Anderson was born on March 7, 1921, in rural Hector, Minnesota. She was the daughter of George and Alice (Johnson) Raitz. Arlein was the second youngest of seven children. She was baptized as an infant and later confirmed in her faith as a youth, both at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hector. Arlein attended rural country school through the eighth grade and then Hector High School where she graduated in 1938.

On October 29, 1943, Arlein was united in marriage to J. Donald Anderson and they moved to their farm in Melville Township. This marriage was blessed with three children, David, Cheryl, and Annette. In 1980, they moved into Hector, in 2003 to Prairie View Apartments, and in 2014 they moved to the Buffalo Lake Health Care Center. Arlein and J. Donald spent winters in Harlingen, Texas for 23 years and enjoyed their summer cabin on Diamond Lake for over 40 years.

Arlein enjoyed gardening, fishing, painting and drawing, reading, embroidery work, and family get-togethers. She was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church her entire life, teaching Sunday School and working with the Junior Mission Band when her children were young, and training for and teaching the Bethel Bible Series. She sang in the choir and was active in Women of the ELCA, Women's Circle, and Bible Study.

Arlein passed away on Tuesday, July 21, 2020, at Buffalo Lake Healthcare Center, at the age of 99 years.

Daughters, Cheryl Edgar and her husband, Brad, of Bird Island, MN,
Annette Meeks and her husband, Bob, of St. Peter, MN;
Grandchildren, Jacquelyn Anderson and her husband, Todd Lee, of Oakland, CA,
Kristin Anderson and her husband, Michael Bluhm, of Portland, OR,
Bethany Christenson of Baxter, MN,
Stephen Edgar of Oskaloosa, IA,
Christine Meeks of Mankato, MN;
Great-Grandchildren, Alanna Lee, Anders Bluhm, Cacee Bluhm, Adriana Biskey, Cassidy Christenson, Kylie Christenson, Kennedy Christenson, Loghan Edgar, and Tyler Edgar;
Great-great-grandchild, Ashtyn Patterson;
Sister-in-law, Mildred Flink and her husband, Duane, of San Antonio, TX;
Many special nieces, nephews and their spouses on both sides of the family, and wonderful friends.

Arlein is preceded in death by her Parents, George and Alice Raitz; Husband, J. Donald Anderson; Siblings and their spouses, Anna (Reinhold) Foesch, Adeline (Nick) Jacobson, Norman (Irene) Raitz, Melvin (Ila) Raitz, Gordon (Virginia) Raitz, and George Jr. (Carol) (Lorraine) Raitz; Sisters-in-law and Brothers-in-law, Alyce (John) Canny, and Lawrence (Alice) Anderson; Grandson, Derek Edgar; Great-Grandson, Matthew Edgar.
