Service Information
Beatrice “Bea” J. Serbus, age 92, of Buffalo Lake, formerly of Hector, Minnesota, passed away on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at Buffalo Lake Healthcare Center in Buffalo Lake.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, August 18, 2025, 11:00 A.M., at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bird Island, Minnesota, with interment in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Hector.
Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 A.M., two hours prior to the service at the church. Prayer Service will be Monday, August 18, 2025, 8:30 A.M., at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bird Island.
Obituary
Beatrice Joan (Kalkhoff) Serbus was born on July 13, 1933. She and her twin sister were born on the family farm north of Clements, Minnesota. Beatrice was the daughter of Henry and Kathryn (Fangmann) Kalkhoff. She was baptized, confirmed and married at St. Joseph Catholic church in Clements. Beatrice attended elementary school at District 101, Redwood County, Minnesota. She attended high school in Wabasso, Minnesota, graduating in 1951.
On September 12, 1955, Beatrice was united in marriage to George M. Serbus in a double wedding ceremony with her twin sister and her husband at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Clements. This marriage was blessed with seven children; Mary Kay, Mark, Dean, Scott, Dan, Ronald and Jolene. Beatrice and her husband farmed until 1963 when they moved to Fairfax, Minnesota. In 1968, they moved to Hector, Minnesota, where they made their home and raised their family until 2014. They shared 59 years of marriage until George passed away on April 5, 2015.
After graduation, Beatrice was employed at the State Bank of Sleepy Eye until her marriage in 1955. After her children were in school, she returned to work at Communications Systems Inc. for over 20 years until her retirement. Beatrice was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Hector, Minnesota.
Beatrice enjoyed baking, gardening, and canning much of what she raised. She also loved playing cards and walking with her friends. Her grandchildren loved her molasses cookies!
