Service Information

Bernetta Alsleben, age 95, of Brownton, Minnesota, passed away Friday, April 27, 2018, at Glencoe Regional Health Services in Glencoe, Minnesota.

Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, May 2, 2018, at 11:00 A.M. at Grace Lutheran Church in Brownton, Minnesota, with interment following at St. Matthews Cemetery in Penn Township, Minnesota.

Visitation will be held 2 Hours prior to the service time at the Grace Lutheran Church in Brownton

Obituary

Bernetta Ida (Wilhelm) Alsleben was born on December 3, 1922, in Penn Township, McLeod County, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Christ and Emma (Rettmann) Wilhelm. Bernetta was baptized as an infant on December 18, 1922, by Pastor George Diemer of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Penn Township, Minnesota. She was later confirmed in her faith as a youth on March 21, 1937, by Pastor Walter Diemer of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Penn Township. Bernetta attended rural public schools and Glencoe High School through grade 9.

On June 24, 1945, Bernetta was united in marriage to Alvin Alsleben by Reverend J.H. Kolberg at St Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Penn Township, Minnesota. This marriage was blessed with five children, Arden, Donovan, Glenn, LuAnn and Gary. Bernetta and Alvin made their home on a farm southeast of Brownton, Minnesota from 1945 to 1973. They then moved into the town of Brownton. They shared 62 years of marriage until Alvin passed away on December 11, 2007.

In addition to being a loving wife and mother, Bernetta was a homemaker.  She also worked at various places in the community helping with household duties and chores. She was an active member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Penn Township and Grace Lutheran Church in Brownton, Minnesota, where Bernetta served in several different offices in Ladies Aide, was a Sunday school teacher for many years, and sang in the choir for many years. She also held offices in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA).   

Bernetta enjoyed embroidering, playing cards, baking, playing the organ and her flower garden. She cherished the time spent with her family and friends.

Bernetta passed away on Friday, April 27, 2018, at Glencoe Regional Health Services in Glencoe, Minnesota, at the age of 95 years.

                Donovan Alsleben and his wife, Sharon, of Brownton, MN,
                Glenn Alsleben and his wife, Susan, of Brownton, MN,
                LuAnn Alsleben and her special friend, Henry “Hank” Stein, of South Range, WI,
                Gary Alsleben and his special friend, Kim Bacon, of Stewart, MN;
Grandchildren, Carey Alsleben and his wife, Jill, Troy Alsleben and his wife, Rachel, Krista Graham and her husband,
                          David, Kelly Alsleben and her significant other, Greg, Kimberly Echmann and her husband, Ted, Daniel Alsleben and his wife, Sarah, Elizabeth Fischer and her husband, Dustin, Luke Alsleben and his fiancé, Nicole, Jodi Rickheim and her husband, Harlan, Gina Duehn and her husband, Chad, Angie Silfverston and her husband, Leif, and Heidi Klockmann;
Great Grandchildren, Erica McCleskey and her husband, Alex, Ashley and her fiancé, Collin Brehmer, Brett, Stephanie, Mitchel, Cole, Gage, Casey, Joey, Levi, Nicole, Jaime, Natalie, Paizley, Mylah, Trey, Loretta, Colton, Jacoby, Evangeline, Aiden, Christopher, Jason, Elise, Aubrey, Broderick, and Cordia;
Nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends.

Bernetta is preceded in death by her Parents, Christ and Emma Wilhelm; Husband, Alvin Alsleben; Grandsons, Jonathan Alsleben and Marty Klockmann; Siblings, Verna Winter, Rueben Wilhelm, Ruth Clausen, Elda Wilhelm, and Maynard Wilhelm.
