Betty Schwartz, age 90, of Norwood Young America, Minnesota, passed away Tuesday, June 6, 2017, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care in Glencoe, Minnesota.
Memorial Services will be held Friday, June 9, 2017, 11:00 A.M. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Norwood Young America, Minnesota, with interment following at the church cemetery.
Gathering of Family & Friends will be held Friday, June 9, 2017, from 10:00-11:00 A.M., one hour prior the service at the church.
Obituary
Betty (Kirschbaum) Schwartz was born on September 19, 1926, in Nuremberg, Germany. She was the daughter of Georg and Berta (Habelitz) Kirschbaum. Betty was baptized as an infant and later was confirmed in her faith as a youth. She attended an elementary school thru the 8th grade.
Betty and Melvin met in Germany and then on June 28, 1948, Betty was united in marriage to Melvin Schwartz by Rev. W. P. Kramer at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Norwood Young America. Betty and Melvin made their home in New Germany, Minnesota, and then built a home in Norwood Young America. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Kurt and Wanda. The couple shared over 42 years of marriage together, until Melvin passed away on January 21, 1991. In her later years, Betty lived in Peace Villa, The Harbor and in August of 2016 moved to Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care in Glencoe.
Betty was a loving wife, mother and homemaker. She also cleaned homes for other people. Betty was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Norwood Young America, Minnesota.
Betty enjoyed playing bingo, gardening, cooking, flowers, watching fish in fish tanks and traveling. She was also known for her potato salad and would always make it for the American Legion. Betty loved spending time with her family and friends.
Betty passed away on Tuesday, June 6, 2017, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care in Glencoe, Minnesota, at the age of 90 years, 8 months and 18 days.

Daughter, Wanda Phelps and her husband, David, of Plato, MN;
Grandchildren, Jeremy Schwartz and his wife, Lainey, of Belle Plaine, MN,
Jennifer Kern and her husband, Jeffrey, of Andover, MN,
Nicholas Phelps of Glencoe, MN,
Angela Phelps and her fiancé, Eric Werner, of Sunrise, FL;
Great Grandchildren, Cole, McKinley and Charles Schwartz, Julia and Janna Kern;
Other relatives and many friends.
Betty is preceded in death by her Parents, Georg and Berta Kirschbaum; Husband, Melvin Schwartz.
