Service Information

Darlene Godel, age 82, of Glencoe, Minnesota, passed away Wednesday, October 30, 2019, at The Haven at Peace Village in Norwood Young America, Minnesota.

Funeral service will be held Monday, November 4, 2019, 11:00 A.M. at Church of Peace in Glencoe, Minnesota, with interment following at the Glencoe City Cemetery in Glencoe, Minnesota.

Visitation will be held Sunday, November 3, 2019, from 4:00-7:00 P.M. at the Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel in Glencoe, Minnesota, and will continue one hour prior the service at the church on Monday.

Obituary

Darlene May (Borchert) Godel was born on May 31, 1937, in Penn Township, Brownton, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Elmer and Gertrude (Scharpe) Borchert. Darlene was baptized on June 27, 1937, by Rev. A. Diemer at St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Penn Township, Minnesota, and later was confirmed in her faith as a youth. She received her education in Glencoe and Gaylord, Minnesota, and was a graduate of the Gaylord High School.

On August 31, 1958, Darlene was united in marriage to Irvin Godel at Church of Peace in Glencoe, Minnesota. Darlene and Irvin started their life in Gaylord, moved to New Auburn and made their home in Glencoe for over 40 years. In the fall of 2018, they moved to the care facility in Norwood Young America, Minnesota. Their life was blessed with two sons, Alan and Larry. Darlene and Irvin shared over 60 years of marriage until Irvin passed away on January 16, 2019.

In addition to being a loving wife, mother and homemaker, Darlene worked for the Glencoe School District in food service retiring in 1999. After retirement she continued to sell tickets at the Glencoe High School for sporting events, plays and concerts. Darlene was an active member of Church of Peace in Glencoe. She was also a member of the Glencoe VFW Auxiliary Post #5102.

Darlene enjoyed playing cards, crocheting, reading, gardening, canning, walking and traveling. She also loved watching the Minnesota Twins. Darlene cherished the time spent with her family and friends.

Darlene passed away on Wednesday, October 30, 2019, at The Haven in Norwood Young America, Minnesota, at the age of 82 years, 4 months and 30 days.

         Larry Godel and his wife, Ann, of Lino Lakes, MN;
Grandchildren, Matthew Godel of Eagan, MN,
                         Aaron Godel and his wife, Kirsten, of Westminster, CO,
                         Mallory Brown and her husband, Shawn, of Shakopee, MN;
Great Grandsons, Bennett Brown and another Brown Grandson due in February;
Great Granddaughter, Rhees Severson;
Sister, Diane Osmek and her husband, Milan, of Burnsville, MN;
Brother-In-Law & Sisters-In-Law, Homer Godel and his wife, Deloris, of Moorhead, MN,
                                                       Barbara Godel of Alma, WI,
                                                         Juel Godel of Fergus Falls, MN,
                                                         Shirley Godel of Kennewick, WA,
                                                         Beverly Melin of Elbow Lake, MN;
Nephews, Nieces, Other relatives and many friends.

Darlene was preceded in death by her Father, Elmer Borchert; Mother, Gertrude Borchert Ellig; Step Father, Frank Ellig; Husband, Irvin Godel; Brothers-in-law and Sisters-in-law, L. Wilton (Marian) Godel, Edwin Godel, Howard Godel, Myron Godel, Charles (Marlys) Godel.
