David W. Kahl

Obituary

David Wayne Kahl was born on January 12, 1954, in Morris, Minnesota. He was the son of Clair and Marian (Behl) Kahl. David was baptized as an infant on June 6, 1954. He received his education in several different communities, with early years in Buffalo Lake, Minnesota, and then in Nebraska and Iowa. In 1972, David graduated from West Delaware High School Class in Manchester, Iowa. He moved to Hector, Minnesota, in 1973, to farm with his brother, Dennis.

On October 4, 1975, David was united in marriage to Becky Olson at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hector. They were married for several years and were blessed with two children, Nicole and Adam, before divorcing. Later in life, they became and remained close friends.

David made his living as a truck driver and farmer, before owning and operating his own excavation company. While he took great pride in all of his work, David enjoyed demolition the most, and was known as the cleanest dirt worker around.

David will be remembered as a storyteller, amazing father, grandfather, and friend. His grandchildren were his first love and truest soft spot. David would go out of his way to provide for and spend time with his family. It was common for him to strike up a conversation with anyone, tell a joke to make their day, or ask questions about their life to make them feel welcome and part of the group. David enjoyed anything involving a motor. Racing, racquetball, motorcycle riding, and time at the lake with family and friends were his favorite ways to spend time over the years.

David passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2024, at the age of 70 years.

Peggy Hatfield of Carver, MN;
Many Nieces, Nephews, and other relatives and friends.

David is preceded in death by his Parents, Clair and Marian Kahl; Sister, Sandra Butchardt.
