Dee, as she preferred to be called, was born April 2, 1951 in Faribault, Minnesota. She was the third of four children born to Russell and Blanche Wilson. The Wilsons relocated to Lakeville, Minnesota, when Dee was a teenager. Dee graduated from Lakeview High School in 1969. After the birth of her two sons, Dee was hired as a Special Education teacher in the Litchfield, Minnesota, school district where she later became the Basic Skills Coordinator for the Litchfield school district until her retirement in 2010. While employed in the Litchfield district, she completed her Master’s Degree in Education at St. Mary’s University.
After retiring, Dee and her husband, Duane, moved to Victoria, Minnesota, where she enrolled in and completed the Master Gardener program at the University of Minnesota. Gardening then became her passion and full-time activity. She volunteered weekly at the nearby University of Minnesota Landscape Arboretum. Additionally, she worked part-time at Hartman’s Garden Center in Victoria and maintained a large garden of her own at her home.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Duane Hagen; their sons, Daniel Hagen and his wife, Kathy, Douglas Hagen; one grandchild, Colin Hagen; and her sister, Dawn Wilson Peterson.
