Delmer Schmidt

Obituary

Delmer Ferdinand Schmidt was born on November 29, 1921, in Cologne, Minnesota. He was the son of David and Stella (Rabe) Schmidt. Delmer was baptized as an infant on December 18, 1921, by Rev. Herman AmEnd at Zion’s Lutheran Church in Cologne, Minnesota, and later confirmed in his faith as a youth on May 12, 1935, by Rev. E. Kolbe at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe, Minnesota. He received his education in Benton Township and then attended District #74 for 6th thru 8th Grade.

On March 30, 1948, Delmer was united in marriage to Lorna Bargmann by Rev. Alf. Streufert at First Evangelical Lutheran Church office in Glencoe, Minnesota. Delmer and Lorna made their home in Glencoe, Minnesota. They shared over 63 years of marriage until Lorna passed away on February 26, 2012.

Delmer was a farmer. He also did farrier work. Delmer was a member at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe.

Delmer enjoyed raising purebred cattle, playing cards, socializing with people and eating breakfast at Bumps. He loved animals, especially horses, dogs and cats. In the later years, Delmer enjoyed bird watching. Delmer went to rodeos all over the states. He treasured the time spent with his family and friends.

Delmer passed away on Thursday, November 15, 2018, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota, at the age of 96 years, 11 months and 17 days.
