Obituary
Delvin Alfred Dittmer was born on March 27, 1953, in Glencoe, Minnesota. He was born to Alfred and Evelyn (Reibe) Dittmer. He was baptized as an infant and later confirmed in his faith in the 8th grade at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe.
On July 10, 1976, Delvin was united in marriage to Eileen (Dressen) Dittmer at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe. They would have been celebrating 50 years of marriage this July. The couple raised four daughters, Lisa, Krista, Amy, and Angela. They also raised their two granddaughters, Alexis and Jordan.
Delvin was a graduate of the Glencoe High School in 1971. He furthered his education at Hutchinson Vocational School, earning a 1st Class Boiler’s License, Chief Boiler’s License, and a Chopping Choppers Certificate. He worked as a Boiler Engineer at Glencoe Butter & Produce for 35 years before continuing his profession as a Chief Boiler Engineer at Mystic Lake Casino for another 11 years until his retirement. He was also a familiar face as a bartender at the Little Ireland, located in Green Isle, Minnesota, for several years. Delvin volunteered for the New Auburn Fire Department and was an EMT for the Glencoe ambulance.
Delvin’s life was marked by his many passions. Known for riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycles, he made annual trips to the Sturgis Bike Rally – a tradition for 26 years in a row. One of Delvin’s greatest accomplishments was building his own chopper alongside Donnie Smith. Delvin also had a great appreciation for classic cars and classic rock music. While he owned a few classic cars in his lifetime, his former 1972 Chevelle SS was most notable.
Faith played an important role in Delvin’s life. In the early 1980s, he and his family contributed to the construction of the Lighthouse Church near Plato, Minnesota. He served there as Head Usher and Deacon during its formative years. In 2010, Delvin returned to the Lighthouse Church with two of his granddaughters.
Delvin will always be remembered for the warmth he brought into every room he entered. A natural storyteller with a lovable personality, he had a unique ability to connect with those around him.
