Service Information

Doris I. Johnson, age 93, of Hector, Minnesota, passed away on Wednesday, December 16, 2020, at RenVilla Health Center in Renville, Minnesota.

Funeral Service will be held on Monday, December 21, 2020, at 11:00 A.M., at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hector with interment following at Swedlanda Lutheran Cemetery in Palmyra Township, rural Hector, Minnesota.

Visitation will be held on Monday, December 21, 2020, from 10:00 – 11:00 A.M., one hour prior to the service, ALL AT CHURCH.

Obituary

Doris Irene Johnson was born on December 28, 1926, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Oscar and Hilda (Nipp) Zweig. Doris was baptized as an infant and was later confirmed in her faith as a youth in Minnesota. She received her education through grade 8. Doris raised her younger brother, Marvin, and sister, Helen, and two foster children after her mother died in at a young age.

On April 26, 1946, Doris was united in marriage to Glenn Franzeen at First Lutheran Church in Annandale, Minnesota. This marriage was blessed with three children, still born Glenna Marie on March 27, 1959, Tim on May 16, 1960, and Tom on April 8, 1963. Doris and Glenn resided in Hector. They shared 18 years of marriage until Glenn passed away on September 18, 1964.

On November 4, 1965, Doris was united in marriage to Edwin Johnson at Swedlanda Lutheran Church in Hector, Minnesota. This marriage was blessed with one daughter, Theresa on August 24, 1967. Doris and Edwin resided on a farm in rural Hector. They shared 12 years of marriage until Edwin passed away on July 18, 1978.

Doris was employed at Minnesota Mining in St. Paul, Minnesota, in her early years. She worked at Johnson Hardware and Skogmo’s in Hector, Minnesota. She was also a loving farmwife to Edwin and her children. In the 80’s, Doris owned and ran the Canteen restaurant in Hector

Doris was an active member of Swedlanda Lutheran Church in Palmyra Township, rural Hector, where she was involved in the Women’s Group. She was also a member of Grace Circle.

Doris loved traveling. She often traveled to Wyoming with her sister, Lorraine, to visit her niece. She also enjoyed traveling to Alaska, Arizona, Hawaii, and Germany with her granddaughter. Doris also enjoyed cooking, sewing, quilting, and visiting with everyone. She especially cherished her time with her family, grandchildren and friends.

In March of 2017, Doris became a resident at Prairie View of Hector. She then moved to RenVilla Health Center in Renville, Minnesota, on December 2, 2020. Doris passed away there on Wednesday, December 16, 2020, at the age of 93 years.

Children, Tim Franzeen and his wife, Michelle, of Buffalo Lake, MN,
                Tom Franzeen and his wife, Deb, of Bettendorf, IA,
                Theresa Fink and her husband, Jerome, of Hector, MN;
Grandchildren, Katie (Mike) Ovitt, Kasey (Brian) Athmann, Matthew Franzeen, and Jaden Fink;
6 Great Grandchildren;
Brother, Marvin Zweig and his wife, Dorothy, of Arizona;
Sister, Helen Shook of California;
Brother-In-Law, Harlin Johnson and his wife, Diane, of Texas,
                           Andy Johnson and his wife, Pat, of Rogers, MN;
Nieces, Nephews, and many other relatives and friends.

Doris is preceded in death by her Parents, Oscar and Hilda Zweig; First Husband, Glenn Franzeen; Second Husband, Edwin Johnson; Daughter, Glenna Marie; Daughter-In-Law, Stacey Franzeen; Sister, Lorraine Hokkala; Brothers, Paul Zweig and Oscar (Babe) Zweig.

    Tim, Tom & Thersa,
    You are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
    You all have many memories that you can look back on and smile about.
    I liked visiting with her when she came down to the community center for senior meals. Such a sweet lady.RIP Doris. ???. Wes & Barb
