Service Information

Doris J. Dammann, age 84, of Lester Prairie, Minnesota, passed away on Friday, November 17, 2023, at Grand Meadows in Glencoe, Minnesota.

Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, November 21, 2023, 11:00 A.M., at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie, Minnesota, with private family interment at the church cemetery.

Gathering of Family & Friends will be held Tuesday, November 21, 2023, from 9:00-11:00 A.M., two hours prior to the service at the church.

Service will be livestreamed on the church website at stpaullp.org.

Obituary

Doris Jenella Dammann was born on October 16, 1939, in Bergen Township, McLeod County, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Herman and Esther (Adams) Birkholz. Doris was baptized as an infant and was later confirmed in her faith as a youth, both at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie. She received her education in Lester Prairie and was a graduate of the Lester Prairie High School Class of 1957.

On August 8, 1959, Doris was united in marriage to Chester Dammann at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie. After their marriage, the couple resided in Lester Prairie. Doris and Chester were blessed with four children. She was employed at Schwartz Manufacturing in Lester Prairie for a number of years and then later as an office administrator for German Mutual Insurance Company in Norwood Young America, retiring from there in 2002.

Doris was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie and a member of the LWML.

Doris enjoyed playing cards and going out to eat with family and friends. She also enjoyed doing embroidery and sewing. Doris looked forward to shopping and found ironing to be a relaxing chore. Some of Doris’ best days were spent at Lake Mary in Alexandria, Minnesota. She cherished her time spent with family, especially her children and grandchildren.

In June of 2023, when she needed assistance with her care, Doris became a resident of Grand Meadows Assisted Living, and passed away there on Friday, November 17, 2023, at the age of 84 years. Blessed be her memory.

Sons, Randy Dammann and his wife, Beth of Blaine, MN,
          Kerry Dammann of Arlington, MN, and
          Ryan Dammann and his wife, Joann of Waconia, MN;
Grandchildren, Andrew Dammann and his fiancé, Bekah, Michael Dammann, Bradley Dammann and his wife, Jennie, Olivia Dammann, Alyssa Dammann, and Ella Dammann;
Great-Grandchildren, Will Dammann, Noah Dammann, Ava Dammann;
Sister, Joyce Heuer of Chaska, MN;
Brothers, Gordon Birkholz and his wife, Doreen of Howard Lake, and Robert Birkholz and his wife, Nancy of Lester Prairie, MN;
Sister-in-law, Terri Birkholz of Howard Lake, MN;
Brother-in-law, Earl Dammann of Glencoe, MN;
Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Esther Birkholz; daughter, Tricia Dammann; grandson, Benjamin Dammann; sisters, Marjal Prehn and her husband Glenn, Betty Lou Wolff and her husband Lowell; brother, Gene Birkholz; brother-in-law, Larry Heuer; sister-in-law, Aileene Dammann.

    Chester and family. So sad to lose such a good friend. Will miss her so much! We’ve had such good times over the years! Our deepest sympathy is extended to you.
