Obituary
Doris Joan Prax was born on February 23, 1935, in Franklin, Minnesota, the daughter of Clarence and Mathilda (Korsmo) Boyum. Doris was baptized as an infant at home in Franklin and was later confirmed in her faith as a youth at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Fairfax. Doris attended District 124 Country School in Bandon Township until the 8th grade and then graduated from Franklin High School in 1953. Following high school, Doris worked at Northwestern Bank in Minneapolis before returning to Fairfax to work at Citizen’s State Bank.
On September 10, 1955, Doris was united in marriage to Wesley Prax at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Fairfax. Shortly after their marriage, Doris and Wesley moved to Winthrop, Minnesota, where they operated the local bakery for several years before building a Red Owl Grocery Store in 1963. After selling that business in 1976, Doris worked at Fairfax Farmers’ Cooperative (South Central) until her retirement in 1997. They were blessed with nine children, Susan, Mary, Dianne, David, Steven, Carolyn, Kathy, Donny, and Duane. Doris and Wes shared 68 years of marriage when Wes passed away on January 10, 2024.
Doris was a member of American Legion Auxiliary #205, the VFW Auxiliary #8459, St. Andrew’s Christian Women’s, St. Ann’s Society, St. Andrew’s CCW, and the Fairfax Depot Association. Doris was an active member of these organizations, holding offices in most organizations. She would always be counted on to take a leadership role and lend a hand in planning and carrying out activities within the organization.
Doris enjoyed antiquing, collecting glassware, golfing, traveling, camping, and most especially attending school events for her children and later her grandchildren.

Doris and her dear family stopped over to greet me my first month in Fairfax, nearly 5 years ago. They were very cordial and kind to me since I’ve lived here. I always enjoyed visiting with them.
Doris’s family was very devoted to her and to her care.
I have great respect for Doris and her family and pray that the Lord will comfort them during this sensitive time.
