Obituary
Dorothy R. Brandt Lindeman was born at 6:00 AM on June 6, 1927, at the family home in rural Hutchinson, Lynn Township, McLeod County, Minnesota. Her parents were Vera Day Brandt and Arthur (Art) Brandt. She joined siblings Vernon, Phyllis and William (Bill), with Robert (Bob) and Helen to follow in the intervening years.
Dorothy attended Hutchinson schools, graduating in 1945. In the fall of 1945, she attended the Hutchinson Teacher Training Department Program which qualified her to teach in ungraded elementary schools in the State of Minnesota (rural country schools). She spent her teaching career entirely in McLeod County, teaching in various rural districts such as Districts 40 south of Hutchinson, 37 east of Fernando, 64 south of Brownton, and 16-39 on the border of McLeod and Sibley counties. By continuing her education, which was important to her, she was able to teach in the Brownton district and Glencoe district. Dorothy taught at the New Auburn school for a few years through the Glencoe district and also for a time was the elementary principal in the Brownton district. Since her teaching career was within McLeod County, she taught both children and grandchildren of her early students. Dorothy had many happy and humorous stories to tell of her rural school and teaching adventures.
Dorothy married Ray Lindeman on March 31st, 1950, during a snowstorm at Vineyard Methodist Church in Hutchinson. At that time, it was located next to Hutchinson High School. They lived in Brownton for many years, and she eventually moved to Glencoe after Ray’s passing on June 1st, 1978. In her later years, Dorothy permanently moved to her winter home in Gold Canyon, AZ.
Dorothy is survived by her sons Jon (Linda) Lindeman and Mark Lindeman. Her grandchildren are Benjamin (Kristen) Lindeman and Jenna (Tedd) Herman with great-grandchildren Lucas and Alexander Lindeman and Sofia and Conner Herman. She is further survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
Over the years, Dorothy mourned the passing of her husband Ray, her parents, siblings and their spouses, especially her sister-in-law Jeri Brandt, her mother and father-in-law Edith Lindeman and Emil Lindeman, brothers-in-law Harry (Vera Ferencik) Lindeman, Martin “Max” (Pearl) Lindeman and sisters-in-law Ruth (Waldemar “Wally”) Grewe and Lorraine Lindeman, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
Dorothy was a beautiful person inside and out, who had a friendly smile and greeting for all. She always took the time to acknowledge and converse. She was a good and faithful friend, mother, teacher and extended family member who was caring and gave of herself. She was hardworking, dedicated, selfless and will be missed. Dorothy had a peaceful passing on January 24th, 2022, after a prolonged illness. She maintained her wonderful outlook and always looked for the good in life, living and others.

Dr. Kathryn K Kelly says
My Aunt, Dorothy Lindeman, was one of a kind! As my role model in the teaching profession, she set a wonderful example! Through the years, I appreciated her encouragement by asking about my college courses and activities. She understood the rigors of attaining a degree and teaching licensure, becoming the very best ‘cheerleader’.
Her supportive presence continued throughout my years of higher education and I was honored to have her, along with her friend, Mary, visit and tour St. Cloud State University during my time of employment at SCSU, her Alma Mater.
Through the years, visits with her were inspiring, thought-provoking, never judgmental, supportive and perceptive. She will be greatly missed by many, especially by me! Dorothy is an extra-special Heavenly Angel!
Mark Lindeman says
Kathryn,
Your thoughts mean so much. Thank you. My mother valued you and was always eager to hear of your many endeavors from child through adulthood.
Jennifer Schmidt says
John, Mark and families, It has been many years, sending you sympathies and peace as you grieve your mother. I’ll always remember her as the banker’s wife and fashionista.
Mark Lindeman says
Jennifer,
So nice to read your memories and kind words. Thank you. Jon and I remember you with fondness from your days “on the farm”.
Jennifer Schmidt says
Oh, how times have changed…I now live in TX, and ‘the folks; live in the Ewald house
Mark Lindeman says
Did you know, that even as teenagers, we thought that you were a sweet, soulful little girl?
Jennifer Schmidt says
You’re too sweet! A sweet and soulful girl never turns down a compliment!
Kristen Lee says
Dorothy was a ball of elegant sunshine…. Such energy, brightness, wit, and kindness. She was so fun loving! Dorothy, Eunice Warner, Wilma West, Joan Ewald (the young kid) and my mother, Grace Griebie Spaude, would travel and have adventures and meet despite miles. What an amazing group of life loving, life affirming women. It is so hard to believe that time has passed; they were each of them a huge part of my Mom’s life, and thus mine. I mourn Dorothy. I mourn what has passed. My deepest sympathy to Mark and Jon and the rest of the family she loved so dearly.
P.S. Ray gave me the loan for my first car after graduating college: a 1976 Chevy Nova with a 350 engine. Oh, how miss my Brownton family.
Mark Lindeman says
Kris – And what a group it was! You described our wonderful mother, Dorothy to a “tee”. She, and we, had many good times with that special group, of which you were a part. How nice of you to reminisce and remember with your kind, true words. And of course, the guys – Chuck, Max, Dale, Shine, dad Ray and others rounded out the larger collection. What shenanigans went on! What special recollections! Thank you!
Kristen Lee says
You are so, right, Mark! The guys certainly added to the shenanigans! Add the Hochsprungs and Kazenmeyers and you had a full mix of fun. That group was the best – do anything for anyone. We lost your, Dad, Ray, way, way too soon. I still remember the shock. At least they are together again!
Dorothy had the most expressive eyes – you could usually tell what she was thinking with the sparkle she always had. I can see her giving your Dad the look right now! Great couple, great people.
Theresa (Brelje) Erickson says
My thoughts, sympathy, and prayers for both of you, Mark and Jon (& family), as you mourn the loss of your mother. She was a remarkable woman in so many ways! Keep those special memories close to your heart.
Mark Lindeman says
Theresa – Our thanks to you. We feel fortunate to have had such an exceptionally special person for our beloved mother.
