Obituary

Douglas Mark Rickeman was born on August 19, 1951, to Carl Lyle and Elaine Rickeman in Hutchinson, Minnesota. He attended school in Hutchinson and graduated with the Hutchinson High School class of 1969. Douglas furthered his education at St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, Minnesota, where he graduated in 1973.

After a brief stint in medical supply sales, Doug joined American Family Insurance. He spent his entire career there as a claims adjuster in Rochester and the Denver area. He returned to Rochester to finish his career and retire. Post-retirement, he worked the morning shift at Menards for a time just to keep busy and fit.

Doug never married and did not have children, but he was surrounded by life-long friends from work, softball, and other activities. He was known for his sarcastic wit, his willingness to help his friends, and his aversion to those who practice the law. He loved sports, especially baseball, and made several trips to spring training games in Arizona. He built and maintained an extensive sports memorabilia collection up until his death. His holy grail was the Mickey Mantle rookie card, which he would never acquire because it was overpriced in his view.

Doug passed away unexpectedly of natural causes on May 2, 2019, at his home in Rochester, at the age of 67.

Doug is survived by two brothers, Robert Rickeman and his wife, Mary,
Norman Rickeman and his wife, Kathleen Murphy;
Seven nieces and nephews, who will miss their Uncle Doug very much;
Other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his Father, Carl Lyle Rickeman in 2007. His Mother, Elaine Rickeman, who survived Doug by ten days. She died on Mother’s Day at the age of 98 in Hutchinson, MN. She always worried about who would take care of her unmarried son. Doug never needed anyone to take care of him but now, just in case, he has his mother.
