Douglas T. Guenther, age 65, of Winthrop formerly Lafayette passed away Monday, August 11, 2025, at his home in Winthrop.

Memorial Services will be held at a later date.

Obituary

Douglas Thomas Guenther was born on April 30, 1960, in Pelican Rapids, Minnesota. He was the son of Charles and Lillian (Roers) Guenther. Doug was baptized as an infant and later confirmed in his faith. He received his education in Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, and was a graduate of the Pelican Rapids High School Class of 1978. He furthered his education at Winona State University earning his bachelor’s degree in accounting.

On September 22, 1987, Doug entered active military duty and served his country in the United States Army during the Iraq War. He received the Army Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Marksman Marksmanship Badge Rifle. Doug was Honorable Discharged on September 21, 1991, having achieved the rank of SPC.

On May 6, 1989, Doug was united in marriage to Carol Stark at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bismarck Township. They were blessed with two children. He resided in Lafayette for many years while his children grew up and moved to Winthrop in 2016. Doug and Carol shared almost 25 years of marriage when she passed away on May 4, 2014. Doug was employed at Dairy Farmers of America for 30 years before retiring.

Doug was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bismarck Township, Sibley County, Minnesota.

Doug enjoyed music festivals such as WeFest and Winstock, watching movies, going to the Tall Ships Festival in Duluth, going to Twins Games, fishing with his father, spending time with his buddy, Koda (Courtney’s puppy), and traveling. He cherished the time he spent with his children and grandson.

Doug passed away on Monday, August 11, 2025, at his home in Winthrop at the age of 65 years. Blessed be his memory.

Doug is survived by his:
Children, Courtney Kosse and her husband, Kaelen of West Fargo, ND, and
Cody Guenther and his wife, Shayna of Two Rivers, WI;
Grandson, Clayton Guenther;
Father, Charles Guenther;
Siblings, Mitchel Guenther of Buffalo, MN, and Lisa Cramer and her husband, Keith of Pine Island, MN;
Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Doug was preceded in death by his Wife, Carol Guenther; Mother, Lillian Guenther; Uncles, Gus Guenther, Tom Guenther, and Walter Guenther; numerous Aunts, Father-in-law and Mother-in-law, Lester and Edna Stark.
