Obituary

Duane Donald Schuette was born on April 30, 1939, in Glencoe, Minnesota. He was the son of Arthur “Art” F. and Hilda (Koester) Schuette. Duane was baptized as an infant on May 28, 1939, by Pastor Streufert, and later confirmed in his faith as a youth on April 6, 1952, by Pastor A. H. Fellwock, both at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe. He received his early education grades K-8 at First Evangelical Lutheran Parochial School in Glencoe and graduated from Glencoe High School in 1956.

On April 14, 1958, Duane enlisted to serve with the United States Navy in Lakehurst, New Jersey. He served as an Aviation Structural Mechanic, Petty Officer Third Class. His service was during peacetime, and he worked as a metalsmith throughout those years until he was transferred to the Naval Reserve. On March 11, 1960, Duane received an Honorable Discharge.

On June 4, 1961, Duane was united in marriage to Norene Ann Hantge by E.W. Dohmeier at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Penn Township, Minnesota. Together, they made their home in Glencoe. The couple was blessed with three children, Rick, Amy, and Ryan. Duane and Norene shared over 63 years of marriage.

Duane started in the lumber business working at the Pinske Lumberyard in Plato. Following that, he began working at Fullerton Lumber in Glencoe. In 1983, he became a partner at 4-Square Builders Inc. in Glencoe. He co-owned and operated 4-Square until 2001. He was a lifelong and active member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe, where he served as a deacon, a trustee, and on the Stewardship Board.

Duane enjoyed spending time outdoors, whether he was fishing, boating, or water skiing. He also enjoyed dancing and singing any chance he got. He looked forward to playing cards and socializing with friends. Time spent with family was time he cherished greatly.
