Obituary

Edgar Ceaslen Albert Winterfeldt was born on August 5, 1929, in his parent’s house on the farm in Penn Township, McLeod County, Minnesota. He was the youngest child of Karl and Louise (Albrecht) Winterfeldt. Edgar was baptized as an infant on August 25, 1929, by Reverend Henry Weerts and later confirmed in his faith as a youth on June 13, 1943, by Reverend Gerhard Schmidt, both at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brownton, Minnesota. He received his elementary education at the country school in Penn Township, and attended high school at Brownton Public School.  He graduated in the Class of 1947.

Eddie was inducted into active military service in the United States Army on February 19, 1951, in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  He was assigned to Company A of the 369th Engineer Amphibious Support regiment, Corps of Engineers at Fort Worden, Washington, during the Korean War.  Eddie used to say that he served in the “army’s navy”.  He received an Honorable Discharge on February 18, 1953, at the Reception Center in Fort Lewis, Washington. Upon his discharge, he passed up employment at the Boeing Aircraft Company in Seattle, and returned home to the farm at the request of his brother Harold.

After dating for many years, Eddie was united in marriage to his sweetheart, Ilo Ortloff, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brownton on February 27, 1965. They shared 14 years of marriage until Ilo passed away on February 4, 1979.

Eddie and Ilo lived in their home in Brownton, which they had built as their residence and to house Ilo’s Beauty Shop. Eddie continued farming on the family farm with his brother Harold and his sister Ruth. In addition he drove school buses for Brownton Public School and later for McLeod West Public School, starting in 1966 and continuing for over 40 years. Eddie was a life member of both Immanuel Lutheran Church and the American Legion Post #143 in Brownton.

In his spare time, Eddie enjoyed fishing and was well known for telling jokes.  He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Eddie was hospitalized at Meeker Memorial Hospital in Litchfield, Minnesota before Thanksgiving in 2015.  He was transferred to Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson, Minnesota, on November 30, 2015. He resided there until he passed away in his sleep on Wednesday, January 20, 2016, at the age of 86 years.

Blessed be his memory.
