Obituary

     Edmund John Athmann was born March 10, 1919, to Henry and Regina (Wander) Athmann in Belgrade, Minnesota.  He was baptized and confirmed in the Church of St. Michael in Spring Hill, Minnesota.  He attended the Belgrade Public School.  Eddie entered the military service for World War II in December, 1941, and he met his wife Marcella “Sally” Picus in Indiantown Gap, Pennsylvania.  After a two-year engagement while Eddie served in the 3rd Armored Division overseas, they were united in marriage in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, St. Clair, Pennsylvania, on October 30, 1945.

     Eddie’s favorite job was as a Buttermaker in West Union, Minnesota.  In 1952 he and Sally bought and ran a restaurant in Stewart, Minnesota, until 1957.  He then opened a variety store and also worked part time as Postal Clerk.  In 1977 he became Postmaster in Brownton, Minnesota, retiring in 1984.  He was always active volunteering for the Stewart Fire Department, serving on the city council, and as a member of the Stewart American Legion Club Post 0125.  Eddie also served with the Knights of Columbus and was an active member of St. Boniface Parish.  While he fished and hunted in his earlier years, his favorite pastime was golf, and he played avidly until he turned 90.  He found much joy in his four grandchildren, and most recently his six great-grandchildren.

     Early Sunday morning, October 12, 2014, Eddie died at Lake Ridge Care Center – Lakeside Oasis Unit in Buffalo, Minnesota, surrounded by his daughters.  He had reached the age of 95 years, 7 months, 2 days.  Blessed be his memory.

     Preceding Eddie in death are his wife Sally, parents Henry and Regina, and ten brothers and sisters.

     Eddie is survived by his two Daughters, Lois (Douglas) Nevinski of Buffalo, Minnesota, and Laurie Athmann of Duluth, Minnesota;

Grandchildren: Marc (Sandy) Nevinski of St. Louis Park, Minnesota, Christopher (Erin Cleveland) Nevinski of Helena, Montana, Zenia Nevinski of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Chandra Nevinski of Buffalo, Minnesota;

Great-Grandchildren: Katrina, Zachary, and Maria Nevinski, Lunabelle Cleveland (Nevinski), Rosemedri Nevinski, and Leena Nevinski-Ply;

Sister, Donna Gieske of Bloomington, Minnesota;

Eddie is grateful to everyone who participated in his life’s journey.
