Service Information

Elaine E. Rickeman, age 98, of Hutchinson, Minnesota, passed away Sunday, May 12, 2019, at the Ecumen Oaks in Hutchinson.

Douglas M. Rickeman, son of Elaine, age 67, of Rochester, Minnesota, passed away Thursday, May 2, 2019, at his home.

A Memorial Service for both, Elaine and her son, Douglas, will be held Friday, June 7, 2019, at 11:00 A.M. at Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Hutchinson with interment in Oakland Cemetery in Hutchinson.

A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held Friday, June 7, 2019, from 10:00-11:00 A.M., one hour prior to the service, at Bethlehem United Methodist Church.

Obituary

Elaine (Moede) Rickeman was born on March 4, 1921, in Paynesville, Minnesota, to Fred and Helen (Wendlandt) Moede. She was baptized as an infant at the Evangelical Church in Paynesville and was confirmed in her faith as a youth at the Evangelical Church in Hutchinson. Elaine attended Hutchinson High School and was a graduate of the Hutchinson High School Class of 1939. She graduated from “Normal Training” class in Hutchinson in 1940 and was able to teach in country schools.

On June 21, 1946, Elaine was united in marriage to Carl Lyle Rickeman. This union was blessed with three sons, Robert, Norman, and Douglas. The couple made their home near Hutchinson on an 80-acre farm. Elaine and Carl shared 61 years of marriage until the passing of Carl on November 15, 2007.

Elaine was employed as a teacher for 6 years at country schools in Renville and McLeod County. She assisted Carl on their family farm. Elaine also worked at J.C. Penney in Hutchinson.

Elaine was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Hutchinson. She sang in the church choir for several years. Elaine loved going to church and seeing her church family.

Elaine enjoyed traveling with her husband, fishing, and crossword puzzles. She also enjoyed listening to music and playing the piano by “ear”. She liked holding garage sales. Elaine had fun babysitting her first grandchildren. They are now scattered across the country, but she had many wonderful memories with them.

Elaine passed away Sunday, May 12, 2019, at the Ecumen Oaks in Hutchinson at the age of 98 years. Blessed be her memory.

Elaine is survived by her:
Sons, Robert Rickeman and his wife, Mary,
Norman Rickeman and his wife, Kathy Murphy;
Grandchildren, Andy Swain and his wife, Jill, Kelly Gontesky and her husband, Jake, Amy Murawski and her husband, Nick, Matthew Rickeman, Thomas Rickeman and his wife, Andrea, Abby Rickeman and Libby Rickeman;
Great-Grandchildren, Rocco Murawski, Andy Swain Jr., Jones Metcalf Rickeman, Lula Gontesky,
Mae Gontesky, Violet Murawski, Eleanor Rickeman and Henry Rickeman;
Brothers-In-Law, Russell Rickeman and his wife, Doris,
Marlin Rickeman and his wife, Ruth;
Nieces, Nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Elaine was preceded in death by her Parents, Fred and Helen Moede; Husband, Carl Rickeman; Son, Douglas Rickeman; Sister, Janet and her husband, Doyle Salzsieder; Brother-In-Law, Roger Rickeman and his wife, Florine; Sister-In-Law, Carolyn Miklas and her husband, Warren; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

The family of Elaine would like to thanks the staff of the Ecumen Pines and Oaks and the hospice staff for all of their care to Elaine.
