Elmer Henry Becker

Obituary

Elmer Henry Becker was born on November 25, 1925, in Penn Township, McLeod County, Minnesota. He was the son of Fred and Ida (Otto) Becker. Elmer was baptized as an infant on January 26, 1926, by Reverend George Diemer and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth on April 2, 1939, by Reverend Walter Diemer, both at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Penn Township. He received his education at country school District #16.

On July 1, 1951, Elmer was united in marriage to Clara Gutknecht at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Bismarck Township, by the Reverend Alex Schira. This union was blessed with six daughters. After their marriage, the couple farmed in Bismarck Township, Sibley County, Minnesota, for many years. After retirement, Elmer and Clara both worked part-time at JB Lures in Winthrop for several years. The couple shared 55 years of marriage before Clara passed away on February 15, 2007.

Elmer was a member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Penn Township and recently became a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Brownton.

Elmer enjoyed playing cards, dancing, fishing and gardening. He loved spending time with his family especially his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

When he needed assistance with his daily care Elmer became a resident of the Winthrop Good Samaritan Society in Winthrop and passed away there on Monday, November 16, 2015, at the age of 89 years. Blessed be his memory.
