Service Information

Elmer Knutson, age 88, of Fairfax passed away Tuesday, July 5, 2016, at the New Ulm Medical Center in New Ulm.

Funeral Service will be Saturday, July 9, 2016, 11:00 A.M. at the United Methodist Church in Fairfax, with interment in Ft. Ridgely Cemetery, Ridgley Township, Nicollet County, Minnesota. Military Honors by the Fairfax Honor Guard.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Obituary

Elmer Oliver Knutson was born on December 29, 1927, in Camp Township, Renville County, Minnesota. He was the son of Oscar and Inga (Knutson) Knutson. Elmer was baptized as an infant at Ft. Ridgely and Dale Lutheran Church and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth on May 17, 1942, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Fairfax. He received his education at District #125 country school in rural Fairfax.

On February 18, 1946, Elmer entered the United States Army and served his county during World War II. He received the Army of Occupation Medal, Japan and the World War II Victory Medal. Elmer was Honorably Discharged on July 22, 1947.

On September 9, 1950, Elmer was united in marriage to Vernette Bossenecker at the United Methodist Church in Fairfax. After their marriage the couple resided in rural Fairfax where they farmed. Elmer retired in 1990. This union was blessed with four children. Elmer and Vernette shared 62 years of marriage before Vernette passed away on June 4, 2013.

Elmer was a member of the United Methodist Church in Fairfax. He was also a member of the VFW Post #8459, the American Legion Post #205, Ft. Ridgely Cemetery Board and the Honor Guard.

Elmer enjoyed grooming the lawn and landscaping, gardening and entering vegetables in the surrounding fairs, bowling, woodworking, and traveling. He loved spending time with his friends and family, especially his children and grandchildren.

Elmer passed away on Tuesday, July 5, 2016, at the New Ulm Medical Center in New Ulm, Minnesota, at the age of 88 years. Blessed be his memory.

Elmer is survived by his:
Children,          Judy Koshak and her husband, Evan of Tomahawk, WI,
                        Patsy Dusbabek and her husband, Thomas of Island Park, ID,
                        Daniel Knutson and his wife, Charlotte of Maple Grove, MN, and
                        Timothy Knutson and his wife, Sharon of Humble, TX;
Grandchildren, Jonathan Knutson, Nicholas Knutson, Patty Koshak, Glenn Koshak, Brian Knutson, Matthew Knutson, Amanda Koshak and Bethany Koshak;
Brother, Clair Knutson of Cambridge, MN;
Nieces, Nephews, other relatives and friends.

Elmer was preceded in death by his Wife, Vernette Knutson; Parents, Oscar and Inga Knutson; Brother, Orville and Beverly Knutson; Brother-In-Law and Sister-In-Law, Dwayne and Lorraine Bossenecker.
