Service Information
Erwin J. Pomplun, age 89, of Gaylord passed away Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at Bayside Manor in Gaylord.
Memorial Service will be Saturday, January 31, 2026, 11:00 A.M. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Gaylord with interment in the church cemetery at a later date.
Gathering of Family and Friends will be Saturday, January 31, 2026, from 9:00 A.M.-11:00 A.M., ALL at the church.
Obituary
Erwin John Pomplun was born on May 31, 1936, in Arlington Township, Sibley County, Minnesota. He was the son of John and Alma (Quast) Pomplun. Erwin was baptized as an infant on June 28, 1936, and later confirmed in his faith as a youth on April 2, 1950, both at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Gaylord. He received his education at county school. He grew up on a dairy farm and he farmed until his mid 40’s. Erwin was first married to Bernice (Templin) Thompson and later was married to Marion Dietz.
On July 7, 1959, Erwin entered active military service and served his country in the United States Army during the start of the Vietnam conflict. He was Honorably Discharged on April 7, 1961.
Erwin was a life-time member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Gaylord where he was the custodian for many years.
Erwin was employed as a farmer, drove school bus, was the custodian at the Gaylord school for almost 10 years, and held many miscellaneous side jobs.
Erwin loved dancing, especially polkas and waltzes, listening to music, watching Bandwagon, playing cards, puzzles and word search books. He cherished the time he spent with his family, especially his children.
When he needed assistance with his daily care, Erwin became a resident of Bayside Manor in Gaylord and passed away there on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at the age of 89 years. Blessed be his memory.

Daughters, Debbie Paulson of Eagle Lake, MN, and
Cindy Dreier of Prior Lake, MN;
Step-son, Ron (Kathy) Dietz of Gaylord, MN;
Grandchildren, Christopher (Laurie) Eilrich, Nicholas Eilrich, Justin Pomplun, Robin Pomplun;
Great-grandchildren, Chase Eilrich, Kalyssa (Colin) Barnes, Courtney Eilrich, Claire Bauleke, Adrian Pomplun, Andrew Pomplun, Gavin Pomplun, Jackson Pomplun;
Great-great-grandchild, Weston Barnes;
Step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren;
Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Erwin was preceded in death by his Parents, John and Alma Pomplun; Son, Michael Pomplun; Siblings, Lucille (Pomplun) and Elmer Soeffker, Marvin and Evelyn Pomplun, and Elsie (Pomplun) and Aloys Gerholz.
