Obituary

Esther Mathilda Michaletz was born on August 2, 1924, at home in rural Hamburg, MN.  She was the daughter of Henry and Martha (Tanke) Oelfke.  After graduating from Glencoe High School, she took a secretarial position with McLeod Cooperative Power (REA).  In 1946, she married Harold Michaletz at the Oelfke family farm with friends and relatives in attendance.

Harold (Bud) and Esther farmed until 1965 when a tornado destroyed the farmstead. After purchasing a home in Glencoe, Esther worked at Green Giant as Timekeeper and Employment Coordinator for 2 years and then became employed by Glencoe Public Schools as the secretary to the High School Principal.  She talked fondly of her years at the school and still remembers many co-workers and students. Aunt Esther was a wonderful aunt! So willing to help anyone! I can remember her help with a big “typing” project for school; boy could her fingers fly on that keyboard! She also helped my sister and me secure summer work at Green Giant. My daughter Brooke summed it up perfectly when she stated, “Aunt Esther was a beautiful person!” Yes she was and will be missed!
