Rev. Frederick “Fred” Cook, age 79, of Norwood Young America, Minnesota, passed away Monday, August 22, 2016, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care in Glencoe, Minnesota.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, August 25, 2016, 11:00 A.M. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Norwood Young America, Minnesota, with interment following at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Norwood Young America, Minnesota.
Visitation will be held Thursday, August 25, 2016, from 9:00-11:00 A.M., 2 hours prior the service at the church.
Obituary
Rev. Frederick Seth Cook was born on March 31, 1937, in Milwaukee, WI, to Harold and Catherine (Stock) Cook. He was baptized as an infant on July 18, 1937, at St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Oconomowoc, WI, and later confirmed in his faith as a young adult in Aurora, IL. Fred graduated from Godwin High School in Grand Rapids, MI. He entered active military service in the USAF from 1958-1962 during pre/active Vietnam War. Fred received an Honorable Discharge in 1962 in Sacramento, CA. He furthered his education at Danville Community College in Danville, IL. Then Fred attended Missouri Synod Lutheran Seminary in Springfield, IL. He graduated from the seminary in 1977 in Fort Wayne, IN. He was ordained at Trinity Lutheran Church in Danville, IL, in 1977.
On December 14, 1957, Fred was united in marriage to Grace Ethel Calkin by Rev. Samuelson at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Grand Rapids, MI. Fred and Grace lived in MI, WI, IL, TX, MA, CA and NE before settling in MN for the past 35 years. Their marriage was blessed with eight children: Frederick Jr., Kathleen, Andrew, John, Elizabeth, Hannah, Alma and Abbey. Fred and Grace shared over 58 years of marriage.
Rev. Cook served congregations as a pastor in NE and MN. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in NYA, MN. Fred was also a member of the TAC Tankers Association of America.
Fred enjoyed flying, sports and was an awesome story teller. But the most important thing in his life was his Savior Jesus Christ and sharing Him with his children and family.
Fred passed away on Monday, August 22, 2016, at GRHS – LTC in Glencoe, MN, at the age of 79 years, 4 months and 22 days. Blessed be his memory.

Fred is preceded in death by his Parents, Harold and Catherine Cook; Sons, Frederick Cook Jr., and his wife, Cheryl, John Cook; Sisters, Carol, Barbara; Brother, Ronald.
