Garland G. Birkholz, age 97, of Lester Prairie, Minnesota, passed away on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at GlenFields Living with Care in Glencoe, Minnesota.
Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, November 25, 2025, 11:00 A.M., at St. Paul’s Lutheran Evangelical Church in Lester Prairie, with interment following in the St. James Lutheran Cemetery in Howard Lake, Minnesota.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 25, 2025, from 10:00-11:00 A.M., one hour prior to the service, ALL at the church.
Obituary
Garland George Birkholz was born on June 30, 1928, in Victor Township, Wright County, Minnesota. He was the son of George and Harriet (Salter) Birkholz. Garland was baptized as an infant and later confirmed in his faith as a youth, both at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake, Minnesota. He received his education in Howard Lake and graduated from Howard Lake High School. Garland continued his education at the Minneapolis School of Art.
Garland grew up on a farm just outside of Howard Lake. After studying at the Minneapolis School of Art, he became a draftsman and was employed by Braham Gilmer Monument Co. in Howard Lake. Garland was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie, Minnesota.
Garland enjoyed listening to early 1900s classical music, singing with the St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Choir, and reading.
Garland passed away on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at GlenFields Living with Care in Glencoe, Minnesota, at the age of 97 years, 4 months, and 19 days. Blessed be his memory.

Siblings, Virginia Banke of Lester Prairie, MN;
Nieces and Nephews, Timothy Banke, Marilyn Pikal and her husband, Thomas, and Justin Banke;
Other Relatives and Friends.
Garland was preceded in death by his Father and Mother, George and Harriet Birkholz; Brother, Eugene Birkholz; and Brother-In-Law, Harold Banke.

I knew Garland for many years as I would always wait on him In Howard Lake. We would always have such nice discussions. He was always a gentleman that was so kind and caring.
