Obituary

Gary Francis Lutterman was born on August 24, 1940, in Sibley, Iowa. He was the son of Albert and Aileen (Riordan) Lutterman. Gary was baptized as an infant in Sibley, Iowa, and was later confirmed in his Catholic faith as a youth at Point Richmond, California. He received his education in Windom, Minnesota, and was a graduate of the Windom High School Class of 1959.  He furthered his education at Jackson Vocational School and received an Ag Degree in 1966.

On April 17, 1961, Gary entered active military service and served his country in the United States Army Signal Corps Central Office. He received the Expert (Rifle M-1), and the Army Commendation Medal. Gary was Honorably Discharged on April 3, 1964.

On July 18, 1964, Gary was united in marriage to Mavis Schmit at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Heron Lake, Minnesota. After their marriage, the couple resided in Windom, later moving to Gaylord for the past 39 years. Gary was employed in agronomy sales for Cenex/Land O Lakes Agronomy Company for 38 years. Gary was blessed to retire at the age of 58 so he could enjoy spending time with his family and give back to the community of Gaylord which he loved. Gary and Mavis were blessed with three children and they shared 54 years of marriage.

Gary was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Gaylord. He was also a member of the Windom Lions Club, the Gaylord American Legion and the Knights of Columbus. He was a 4th Degree and a 3rd Degree Knight and was the financial secretary for the Knights of Columbus for 17 years.

Gary enjoyed swimming, woodworking, gardening, golfing, walking, watching the Minnesota Vikings, loved Christmas, driving, and family activities. He was a man of great faith. His most treasured thing was his family.

Gary passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 22, 2019, surrounded by his loving family at his home in Gaylord at the age of 78 years. Blessed be his memory.

My sincere sympathy to Gary’s family. Gary was a personal friend during our professional careers. I treasured his friendship and enjoyed our time together in the busness world. Living in Le Sueur, our paths often crossed. I am saddened hearing of his death.
