Gladys L. Wangerin, age 99, of Glencoe, Minnesota, passed away on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at her granddaughter’s home in Hutchinson.
A private family service will be held at the Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel in Glencoe, with interment following in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Glencoe.
Obituary
Gladys Lorraine (Exsted) Wangerin was born on January 13, 1926, in Glencoe, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Emil and Emma (Busson) Exsted. Gladys was baptized as an infant and later confirmed in her faith on May 3, 1941, as a youth at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe. She received her education at the Glencoe Public School District.
On May 16, 1944, Gladys was united in marriage to Donald Wangerin. Their marriage was blessed with two children: Sharon and Rodney. They shared 49 ½ years of marriage before Donald passed away on February 6, 1994.
The couple lived on a farm west of Glencoe. Gladys helped Donald on the farm. She also worked seasonal corn pack for Green Giant and later at Sears Roebuck & Co. in Glencoe for 28 years. Gladys was a member of Peace United Church of Christ in Glencoe.
Gladys enjoyed gardening, sewing, playing cards, and tending to her flower beds. She enjoyed her pet dogs and cats over the years.
Gladys passed away on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at her granddaughter’s home in Hutchinson, at the age of 99 years, 9 months, and 24 days. Blessed be her memory.

Children, Sharon Zieman of Hutchinson, MN, Rodney Wangerin and his wife, Ann, of Glencoe, MN;
Grandchildren, Stephanie Goldschmidt, Stacie Zieman, Tom Wangerin (Amanda), and Carrie Wangerin;
7 Great-Grandchildren;
4 Great-Great-Grandchildren;
Nieces, Nephews, Other Relatives, and Friends.
Gladys was preceded in death by her Parents, Emil and Emma Exsted; Husband, Donald Wangerin; Brothers, Alfred Exsted and Alvin Exsted; Sisters, Rosella Exsted, Delilah (Exsted) Dummer, Violet (Exsted) Chalupsky; Brothers-in-law, Alvin Dummer, Clayton Chalupsky; Sisters-in-law, Harriet Exsted, Elvira Exsted; Son-in-law, Gary Zeiman.
