Obituary

Harold Herbert Sanken was born on September 1, 1918, on the family farm in Sumter Township. He was the only child of Herbert and Bertha (Lickfett) Sanken. Harold was baptized as an infant on November 3, 1918 by Rev. Strasberg, and was later confirmed in his Christian faith as a youth on August 28, 1932 by Rev. Wiltge both at St. John’s Church near Biscay, Minnesota.  Harold attended country school until he completed the 8th grade after which he farmed full time with his father Herbert.

Despite being an only child, Harold served America during a time of war by enlisting in the Army Air Corps in January, 1942. He was honorably discharged in January, 1945. He served with honor in Philippines and in Australia.

On July 6, 1946, Harold was united in marriage to Lorraine E. Zimmerman at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brownton. This marriage was blessed with six children, Timothy, Adah, Christine, Mark, Joy, and John. Harold and Lorraine resided in rural Brownton. Harold and Lorraine shared 55 years of marriage together until Lorraine passed away on December 22, 2001.

Harold married Frances Olson on April 12, 2008. They loved and supported each other. Harold’s children want to thank Frances for all she has done for thier father. Harold and Frances resided in Hutchinson.  They shared 9 years of marriage together.

Harold lived on the family farm and was engaged in dairy, hogs and crop farming until he moved into Hutchinson in 2008.

Harold served his church by being the Sunday school teacher and superintendent, ushering, and serving on the church council as well as other committees over the years. He also served his community by being on various boards and committees.

Harold enjoyed farming, cows, hogs, and crops. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren and friends.
